I am trying to figure that out as well. I am also going to be delivering at Winthrop.
My insurance has zero info on whether or not I can utilize it.

Re: Private room at Winthrop??

i believe it's $250 a night now. it's a little steep (especially when i could use that money towards other things like diapers!!) but the more i think about it, it's a necessity and i'm just hoping there's a private room available

without a doubt. I had a csection and will be having another one - and I could never imagine sharing a room with everything that goes on. The bathroom alone - YUCK!

Re: Private room at Winthrop??

my whole thinking is 1. i'm an extremely light sleeper. i can't have the volume on the tv, what if the other girl wants to watch tv and i wanna nap or sleep? what if i don't have the baby during the night for feedings and she does. these days are going to be my last days of "sleep" (although the nurses come in during the night to check on you) i don't wanna deal with their visitors, i don't wanna share a bathroom. there's just too many cons that i think it might be worth the money

Re: Private room at Winthrop??

It is so worth it IMO! I shared a room and didn't sleep the entire time! It totally set the entire experience off on the wrong foot-- it made me feel worse both physically and emotionally-- the next time around i am definitely getting my own room!

Re: Private room at Winthrop??

I just gave birth at Winthrop in Feb. it's still $220 a night. The first night, I opted for the shared room. TOTAL NIGHTMARE. My roommate kept me up ALL NIGHT, keeping her light on to read magazines into the wee hours. Plus she was on the phone super early in the morning, and apparently she had a hacking cough, so she went into the bathroom and proceeded to cough up a lung in there. Thank God it was only 12 hrs afer my c-sec so I had a catheter and wasn't using a bathroom. I wouldn't have gone in there without having someone spray Lysol first.

Needless to say, that morning I had myself transferred to a private room for the remaining 3 nights. It was a huge huge difference.

Re: Private room at Winthrop??

I had a private room and for some reason my bill was only $845 I think in total...that was for 5 nights too.

Best thing EVER!

Re: Private room at Winthrop??

I had one and would totally do it again for a few reasons.

I had a C-section and was glad that I didn't have to share a bathroom. It took me a long time to shower the first few times and I wouldn't have wanted to feel pressured to hurry for a roommate.

I was trying to breastfeed and I would have been even more stressed out about it if people were coming in and out of the room to see my roommate.

During visiting hours, I saw one family who literally must have had 25 people standing in the hallway outside someone's room. If I had a roommate with that many visitors, I would have been very uncomfortable.

I had no help when I got home, other than DH, so having the private room enabled me to get 4 nights of great rest before I went home.

I would spend the extra $$ again in a heartbeat.

Re: Private room at Winthrop??

I'm going to be delivering at Winthrop and not planning on getting the private room. I'd rather save the money. I figure I'm a pretty good sleeper. Who knows I may be eating my words if I end up with a difficult roommate, but I have no problem with trying out a shared room. Good Luck with whatever you decide Chat Icon
