Private Room Question
Ok..so I wanted to reserve a private maternity room when I get admitted. I know I have to pay out of pocket for the room but does insurance cover any portion of it?
I mean, they cover a regular hospital stay...so am I just paying the difference for the private room or do I have to pay as if insurance doesn't cover any of it?

Re: Private Room Question
I think insurance covers a small portion. I delivered at LIJ and was told that I would be responsible for $700.00 a night at minimum. Also there is "no guarantee" of a private room since it's first come/first served. I also have heard other BTDT moms comment that sometimes they try to keep private rooms for moms who may truly be in need for personal reasons (ie. having a child in the NICU where everyone else has their child at bedside). IMHO, I had a V delivery and was in/out so fast a private room was not worth it at all.

Re: Private Room Question
Yes..I heard that too. I was just curious. I just called my insurance and was told I would only be responsible for the difference..so we'll see.
Thanks :)

Re: Private Room Question
It depends on the hospital as to what the charge is - I am delivering again at Columbia Presbyterian and they charge $400 for your entire stay no matter the length for a private room. NSUH manhasset I hear is close to $700 a night. It is on top of what your insurance pays.
