if this were my sonogram at 8 weeks (its not, I got this one from the net),...does anyone know what direction they are viewing it from?? I'd like to know which way is up/down right/left??

I've had a sonogram every two weeks throughout this entire pregnancy and I often have to ask the tech or doc exactly what we are looking at.
They are often not easy to figure out. Best to ask the tech.

i don't see a pic so i couldn't tell ya about that particular ultrasound
but overall, ultrasound is VERY confusing. the spatial orientation depends on where you're looking from (inside the vagina vs through the abdomen) and also the angle of the instrument in that particular moment. i would definitely ask the technician to orient you when you're having yours done.
