probably a stupid question but this kid remembers too much!!! celebrating half birthdays twice!
so we had always planned to do a little something for his half birthday. it's great for me b/c his bday is in the fall, and we can make a to-do about getting him fun spring/summer things.
BUT, dh wants to do something tonight while his father is still here (he's going back to Guatemala where he is currently living) and won't be here for either his half or his second birthday.
I am going to get a cake but I don't think we should sing. but doesn't that defeat the purpose?
the thing is, he is getting used to things very quickly. and if he has a cake and singing two weeks in a row, I may end up with a divo on my hands.
is this insane? help me. my son and his little amazing brain are scary.

I think it'll be fine - sing and enjoy! Just don't let it happen again. You don't want all this attention to go to Luce's head

I agree with the no singing, just doesn't sit right with me if you are celebrating his real 1/2 bday next week. But I think it's nice you are willing to compromise and get a cake for tonight.
Don't know, I'm difficult this way though. I wouldn't want to really celebrate it tonight. Just me.

Same here! Let his grandfather have some fun with him. Even though Luce is brilliant, I think he'll be fine. Just tell him why you are celebrating tonight. He may just repeat it and try to understand it. I know Aidan does this. Enjoy the cake!

I have the same exact dilemna!!
DS' birthday is the 19th.
We are going to the IL's this Saturday. I assume there will be cake and singing.
Sunday, we are having my family over for his birthday. Again, cake and singing.
Tuesday is his actual birthday. I'm sending in cupcakes to daycare so I assume there will be singing that day also.
I say, enjoy it!!
I know plenty of adults who celebrate their whole birthday month!!

No - it will be fine. He's not going to process that and expect it ever year .........
and honestly, there WILL be times as he grows up that he has multiple birthday celebrations ........ (school, family, friends, etc etc)
We'll be celebrating Sean's 2nd BDay ON his BDay w/ immediate family, on Saturday w/ friends, and again on Sunday (Easter) @ my Aunts b/c they won't see him before and insist on celebrating (we also celebrate my Dad 4/10 and my cousin 4/8 every Easter as well.........) KWIM ???
