Problem.. a little long, sorry

My DD is 12 months old and always had a great/happy attitude. Just the other day (for the 1st time) she cried for awhile at the babysitters (it's the only way she can communicate....normal I thought) well anyway, after that 1 day the sitter said "if she keeps doing this I don't think I can handle her". I was blown away that she could say this!!! Any suggestions?

Thats insane!!!

I would ask the babysitter to tell me how often my child is crying, for how long, and the occasions that the crying occurs

If she can't handle a crying baby, sadly I don't think she is qualified enough to take on a babysitting job. Can you try to find someone else? Maybe your DD doesn't like her.

She has a 16 month old, I thought she would understand how babies "work". I am soooo disheartened and really would love not to send DD back, but I'm in a tight spot. I don"t have anyone else to watch her and I'm having a really tough time finding any babysitters. I've been praying for something to change/happen.

So it sounds as though she is not experienced in babysitting other peoples children. A difficult adjustment is to be expected. It does not sound like this women felt sympathetic towards your baby nor empathetic to you. She does not sound like the right women for the job.

Have you tried www.childcaresuffolk.org You should be able to see if centers have serious violations within the last 3 yrs on there.

You could try going to local schools/preschools and ask to post a babysitter request on their boards. Sometimes SAHM may be looking to make some extra money. They may be good candidates (unless they are similar to your present babysitter who just may be overwhelmed.) Try churches or temples. Sometimes they can recommend someone who they know has a good rep. CHeck references for sure tho. Good Luck.

Thanks for the website info. I found 2 potential providers so maybe there's some hope yet.

I'm sorry but that is absolutely absurd.

I would start looking elsewhere - obviously she is not "Qualified" to take care of your DC! Chat Icon

Chat Icon That's crazy! Definitley try and look into someone else. It sounds as if she doesn't want to be bothered. She has a 16 month old, how the heck does she handle her own child's situation when crying.
I am a babysitter as well. Their are moments where DS and the baby I sit for have "meltdowns". I do everything in my power to calm them, even sing in my not so beautiful singing voice, but, hey, whatever works.
I am so sorry you are going through this. Good luck in finding another sitter.Chat Icon
