Problems with my cat
I have an indoor outdoor cat. He has been going out for about 1 year now. We have tried everything to keep him in but he litterly will knock you down by the door to get out, so we gave in and let him out. Well he has been peeing on our stuff for a while know, mostly my stuff, or our comforter. Well last night the cat peed on Dh's computer and that was it for him, he can't take him anymore. I am taking him to the vet tonight, but I don't know what else to do. It is behavioral issue. He never uses the litter box anymore he goes outside. Does anyone have any ideas, that might help. We are buying a new home and can not have cat piss all over the place and I dont know what to do. My vet told me that it is to late for him because he is three years old. I just cant believe that there is nothing that can be done. Please help

Re: Problems with my cat
Do you let the cat out when he needs to go to the bathroom?
I used to have an indoor/outdoor cat. We only started letting her outside because she was peeing everywhere in the house. When she started going outside, it stopped until she got old and I guess couldn't control it any more. But she would sit at the door or meow when she wanted to go out - would do her business and then come back inside. She also used the litterbox inside the house at night because we wouldn't let her out at night.
Have you tried more than one box?

Re: Problems with my cat
We do let him out when he cries and wants to go out but we feel that he sometimes goes in the house spitefully. I have tried the other litter box, but once the other cats go in it he wants no part of it. I think his behavior problems stem from us getting other cats. The reason we had to let him out was so he stops peeing but now it happens about once a week (about) and you know the urine smell and its not just in one place its all over and I do not know what else we can do. He is my baby and I really do not want to have to get rid of him, I don't know that I even can let go.

Re: Problems with my cat
Maybe give him his own room? How does he act with the other cats otherwise?

Re: Problems with my cat
I had to put 4 litter boxes around the house on every level and I had to remove all traces of cat urine so he wouldn't do it again. It worked.
I've replaced carpeting more times that I can tell you but it's worth it. it stopped.

Re: Problems with my cat
1st- make sure it isn't an infection.
How are you cleaning the comforter and anything he pees on? If you are using regular detergent then switch. Regular detergent can contain ammonia and that attracts the cat to go there b/c it smells like pee. Switch to an enzyme cleaner detergent. I wish I could suggest a brand, but I don't know any US brands- sorry.
Is your cat fixed?
He is doing it b/c you got other cats and is marking his territory. Have you tried Feliway? It is a great stress reliever for cats.

Its not an infection and he is fixed. I have not tried feliway, I will have to pick it up. My vet recommended speaking to a behavior specialist. He doesnt pee in one spot its all over the place . He does it to be spitful.
