Product RAVE! Benjamin Moore Aura Paint

BM came out with a new type of paint called Aura. It's self priming paint and you can get it in Aura-specific colors or any of the BM colors.

DH and I used it to repaint our bedroom on Saturday and OMG this paint is amazing!! We were painting a medium gray (cobblestone path) over 1 navy blue wall (hale navy) and 3 medium blue walls (van courtland blue). The medium blue walls took 1 coat, no primer, and look amazing; the navy wall took 2 coats (really 1.5 - DH just briskly went back over it for the 2nd coat) and also looks amazing.

The guy figured out for me how much I'd spend to buy primer + 2 gallons of paint vs. just 2 gallons of the aura - it was only a $9 difference. No primer is DEFINITELY worth $9 IMO.

Highly Recommended! Chat Icon

Thanks for the info! I've been wanting to repaint our living room, but have been putting if off because I didn't want to prime it.

Do you remember how much per gallon it was? I have to repaint our ENTIRE new house and am dreading the cost.

Thanks

I saw those commercials and the colors seemed so bold. Nice to know that they come in more subtle tones!

Thanks for the product recco!

It is pretty pricey, but you get what you pay for re: paint IMO. I think the list price is $54.99/gallon, I paid $46.99. They always give me a discount - DH says it's because I'm a girl Chat Icon but the discount is greater the more paint I buy. They have a 'trade' discount that they applied to my order when I bought paint for my entire place last year - definitely push for it if they don't offer it off the bat.

OOOhhh...thank you. I wonder how it would be on new, unpainted walls that soak up primer normally!

I totally agree. We painted out bedroom last week Saybrook Sage with the Benjamin Moore Aura paint. It was pale pink but still we painted with just the paint and no primer. We didn't need 2 full coats either. Basically we needed 1.5 coats too!

It is awesome!!!

I wish I knew about this when we painted over "cookie monster room."

The last owners of the house painted the entire room - ceiling, inside the closet, all the doors this shiny cookie monster color. It took 3 coats of primer to get rid of it.
