Production halted on Jon and Kate, show on hiatus
Production has been halted on Jon & Kate Plus 8 following the Gosselins' Monday revelation they're splitting up, the network has announced.
TLC says next Monday's episode will feature a clip package with some new footage, but the next all-new episode won't air until August 3, the Los Angeles Times reports. The Times says the decision came from the network -- not the family.
Only six episodes of the 40-episode season have aired. Through tears on Monday's show, Kate declared "the show must go on!"
Jon & Kate Plus 8 has become TLC's highest-rated show. Its May premiere drew in 9.8-million viewers, a record for the network.
The Times says TLC does not have enough footage to put together new episodes because of the Gosselins' marital turmoil, as documented by Us Weekly.
Episodes that were televised this season were often shot last-minute and even completed on the day of airing.

Re: Production halted on Jon and Kate, show on hiatus
I'm so glad to hear this...their divorce is so much for the kids to go through that they don't need to be doing a tv show too! jon and kate kept saying their kids come first and this is putting them first...too bad it was the network that decided to do it (and only b/c they didn't get enough footage!)

I found that comment interesting too, along with the comment that she made about doing the show to secure the kids' futures.

I bet they are in an air tight contract.
It's TLC's highest rated show-- do you think they are going to let them walk away that easily? Every Tuesday, I see stories on the episodes on EACH of the network morning programs-- with experts, tabloids etc., talking about the latest development. It's a TV Ratings goldmine for a basic cable channel.
I think that they also look at the show as a way to provide for their family-- so, they may be afraid to completely walk away until they have their finances sorted out.
NOW, if the show continues past what they may be committed for-- let's say, this season. Then I think a major re-evaluation needs to take place in terms of priorities.
It's unfortunate that they may want out-- but TLC won't let them. TV is a pretty greedy medium.

I agree with Randi. This is what I took it to mean when she said "the show must go on"
