Prom and Evening Dresses Needed!

Councilwoman Glenda Jackson recently announced that the Town of Huntington is once again working with the community to collect and distribute prom dresses and accessories to young women who cannot otherwise afford them.

Every year, months before the actual day, millions of young women across America flood malls, boutiques and department stores in search of that perfect prom dress. What some may not realize is that there are a great number of women who cannot afford that dress or the coordinating accessories.

"The Senior Prom is a once in a lifetime event in every young girl's life and she deserves to look and feel beautiful," stated Councilwoman Jackson. "In these tough economic times, most families have to cut costs everywhere they can and unfortunately some parents cannot afford the expenses associated with this event."

This is why, for the third year in a row, Councilwoman Jackson, the TriCYA and Family Service League have teamed up to make the dreams of many of these girls come true. Dresses, shoes and bags of all shapes, colors and sizes are being gathered to give to high school seniors attending the prom or similar special occasion this year. So open up your closets and let your prom dresses have a second life!

Donations are being accepted now through April 16th of new or gently worn dresses and accessories. Please call TriCYA at 631-673-0614; Family Service League at 631-427-3700 ext. 256; or Councilwoman Jackson's office at 631-351-3174 for information on donating or where dresses and accessories can be dropped off.

Future prom queens will have the opportunity to browse and try on dresses at TriCYA, 809 New York Avenue, Huntington Station from April 17th through April 24th. Call 673-0614 for any additional information and for days/hours open.
