Propane Company
Can anyone recommend their propane company. The company I am currently with has left me completely empty for a week now, so I told them to shove the tank up their ...
I called a few places, over priced or nasty customer service - FOR NEW CUSTOMERS NO LESS so I could imagine what being a customer would be like.
I like one company, All Island Fuel but they can't be here until Nov. 7th! And that's not even guaranteed.
Thanks
UPDATE:
We are going with Island Propane. Hopefully all will be right in my world of Propane come Tuesday lol
Thanks again for all of your recommendations

Re: Propane Company
What company are you using now that you are leaving? I wonder if it's the same one I use for my pool.

We used Cylinder Express.
We used them since our last house and my BIL uses them for his commercial business. Price is right, service is not. To leave someone 1 week without gas and tell them daily "It's on the truck" is total BS. I'd rather cook out of my toaster oven forever then use them anymore LoL

Re: Propane Company
I called Parco. It was so expensive. They recommend a 200 lb. tank. I only need 100. It lasts me a full year (It's only for cooking) plus there were tank rental fees, a contract. It was upwards of almost $500 for the first time around with all the additional costs yearly.
I just need a tank here once a year. Uhgghhh I told DH last year when we needed a new stove, I wanted electric so I wouldn't have to deal with this. Yes, I prefer gas, but this is a headache I can def. do without

Propane Company
Petro does Propane deliveries. I originally bought my 80gal tank from Paraco but thankfully I paid for the tank vs. renting it from them. Paraco was crappy and gave me hassle so since I owned the tank I was able to switch carriers. I have propane for cooking and clothes dryer and Petro comes 2-3 times a year to deliver.

I have been using Island Propane (Ronkonkoma) for 7 years now. No complaints; and I find them quite reasonable. (although I never really compared) LOL They do automatic deliveries; so I never run out.

Re: Propane Company
I'm waiting on a call from Petro to get quote.
I called Island propane first (bc it came up first on google search) The woman who answered was ummm Not very nice. I'll just say that. They were a little pricey. Not as bad as Parco. But pricey. Plus she said that they would have to refill me every 6 months. I don't need it every 6 months. So I'd be paying DOUBLE yearly and giving them back a 1/2 used tank. So they are out.
I hope I'm not totally screwed

How do you think you are paying double, are they doing a tank exchange? You should be able to find a company that just fills your existing tank. Petro does this, so i only pay what I use. I don't care if they come once a year or 4x a year, it's all the same in the end.

They said it would be tank exchange every 6 months. Not just fill up. So with that, I'd be paying double. Petro, I am still waiting to hear back from a sales rep to get a quote.

Re: Propane Company
OMG Petro is insane! $129 for safety check. $300 for 200 lb tank full.
If I don't use all 200 lb. in 1 years time, I get charged 99.99 for them NOT filling it up. Then when I do use it, I pay whatever prone is priced at at the time for full refill..
It's impossible. I only use 100 a year. Actually takes about 14 months for me to use that much. So I'll be paying them to NOT fill my tank.
I am so screwed

Re: Propane Company
OMG now the company I had appointment with to install says we need a permit from town of Islip for them to come!!!!
This is unreal.
It really looks like I'll be selling my new gas stove and getting an electric one. Forget this. I'd save money on that deal
Thanks for all of the suggestions

I got Petro to waive the safety check fee I believe after a little haggling. The check is required though as they don't want to accidentally blow your house up. They have to do a pressure test on your lines. I currently have oil lock in with them so they were willing to work with me.
200lb tank is about 46 gallons. They fill propane tanks up to 80% so thats about $5.40 a gallon. That sounds like a lot. Ask them how they are coming up with $200. I pay $4.79 a gallon. Propane is expensive.
Don't do tank exchanges. Just find a company that can fill your existing tank. Try calling Atlantic Bottle and Gas. Thats the company I will probably use if I ever dump Petro.

I take it all back. DH just called (I guess they like to talk to men lol) and we are now switching to them. They had the best pricing with No rental fee and we never have to worry about propane bc they come every 6 months to top you off. They will also be running a line under the deck to our BBQ. Thank you.

I am curious, do you have the tank yet or not? If you don't have the tank I believe you need a Fire Marshall permit and possibly a town permit. I know Paraco will do this. Just get the tank from them, buy the tank (not rent), let them do the legwork with the permits and after you get it you can get rid of them if you don't want to do tank exchanges.

There was a tank here when we bough the house 3+ years ago. I told them that. We already have the hook-up. Just need new tank. She said they need to see actual permit and asked if I had it. REALLY? I have no idea where that is and I would imagine original owner had one because we wouldn't have gotten our mortgage without all proper permits & COs. That wasn't good enough. She said I had to go to Islip Town Hall and Get it before they will even step foot on my property. Mind you, this was only told to me because I called her back to ask a question and she was like , oh yea, I was gonna call you, etc etc etc. Yea, just like she was calling me back yesterday with an install date. She never did. I had to chase them down.
W T F Why do I have to beg people to take my money for their services? I don't understand how customer service doesn't exist anymore.

I learned that propane is a different animal. There are a few issues here. First most gas companies will not deliver gas to a tank unless you can prove you OWN the tank and not rent it. If the tank was there already, you may not have the original sales bill for the tank that shows you bought it (they wanted to see mine). Then propane is very dangerous so no company will fill a tank unless they do a safety check and verify fire marshal permits. It's a pain in the ass. Once I got through all the red tape, Petro comes twice a year to fill... no issues. I pay them online just like I pay my oil bills.
You should sell your existing tank or ask for a credit if they are hauling it away and just replacing it with another tank. They will likely end up reusing that tank.
