Propecia & TTC
Dh come homes last night all excited that his dermotolist prescribed Propecia. So I asked if he bothered to discuss with the dr. that him and I are planning to ttc this summer. He said he mentioned it to the Dr. but he didn't think it would be an issue.
I asked Dh if he even bothered to read the warning and side affects of Propecia...he said not yet...
so I pulled it up on the internet...side effects include decress sex drive, and possible decress in seaman....sounds like a great drug to start taking just when you are about to TTC.
The warning is even better....Woman, especially those who are pregnant trying to get pregnant or nursing should not come into contact with the drug...it can cause reproductive defects in babies...small male children should not handle the drug because it can cause genital defects.
I begged Dh not to take this drug until I can find out more info on it...is it safe to TTC while taking this drug? is it safe to continue having intercourse with a pregnant woman while on this drug?
If anyone knows where I can get info, or has experience with this drug please please let me know...the actual Propecia Website doesn't really answer what I am looking for.
TIA
P.S. sorry so long

Re: Propecia & TTC
I am so mad at DH for even considering this...according to the Propecia web site taking the drug has no effect on TTC...but I found this on Web MD...which of course contradicts what the Propecia Website claims....
MEMBER QUESTION: I am currently using Propecia for hair loss and we are trying to conceive. I know that my wife should not touch or take Propecia, but is there anything else I should be worried about? Can I pass Propecia to her via my sperm?
MARKS: Excellent question. Yes. The active ingredient in Propecia is very, very dangerous for a growing fetus and any man who is trying to father children should not take Propecia.

Re: Propecia & TTC
I had the same concerns, DH has been taking propecia for a year or so. I called my Dr. and asked two pharmacists and they said as long as you don't come into physical contact with the pills, it's fine. A lot of the tests that have been conducted that find issues with propecia have been on lab rats and they've given them like 100 times the amount that a human would take.
Ets- I suggest you call your Dr. just to put your mind at ease.

Re: Propecia & TTC
I actually made an appt. with my Dr. I want to discuss some other concerns I have regarding to TTC and my PG history. So I am adding this to my list of questions and concerns. DH promised he wouldn't start taking them until after my appointment.
