Property Tax Rebate Check
Just heard from my town's assessor's office that NY is giving a rebate check to homeowners at the end of the month! Every town is a different amount & it decreases if your income is over 100K, but it's still money!

What is this rebate for? I assume this is not the STAR rebate?
I can't find any information about this online.

it's part of the star rebate. The woman told me that for some reason, the politicians are not talking about it - call your town assessor's office & ask.

It looks like they started mailing them already.

I got something in the mail the other day. This year is the first year we received STAR so I think I have to apply for this. I dont remember getting it last year.
Is it like STAR, you have to apply and will only get the $$$ the next year after you are approved?
ETA: i just looked it up online. This is the webstie where you need to apply if you haven't already

No - you will get the money for this shortly after you apply.
ETA - The directions should be in the letter you received.

Per household, not individual.
I just applied for it the other day so hopefully we'll get the check by November. This is the first year we are eligible.

found this interesting link explaining it a little. Seems if you got the 2007 rebate check you need not apply for the middle class rebate
