Property Tax Relief Checks?
has anyone gotten any checks yet? I got a letter in the mail about a month ago with a "Property key" and instructions to go onto their website and register myself, my spouse, and my home details in order to qualify for my relief credit. I got a confirmation e-mail when the application was complete, but I haven't heard anything after that...

Re: Property Tax Relief Checks?
Do you mean tax grievance? Did you register with a company to grieve your taxes?

Re: Property Tax Relief Checks?
For the property tax relief check (which is different from the new way to get STAR if you bought your house after a certain time) you did not have to fill anything out.
I called last week they are still mailing checks out. I havent heard of anyone on LI getting it yet but I also havent been asking everyone just people I know.

Please please please make sure you double-check what you signed. There's a huge tax grievance scam (I think it is bumped on the first page) and the documents are very official looking.
There was NO application or property key that you needed to fill out in order to receive the rebate check. There was NO website you had to register on. The checks are mailed automatically.

That was a STAR scam, not property tax grievances. They are 2 separate things.

I also had to recertify. I have not since received a check. It was legit, I still have the paper, it's from the state.

Hi everyone: Yes, there was a form online along with a key. I called the NYS Dept of Taxation and spoke to a representative who looked up my key and confirmed the check is processing. The notice came directly from there, and the website for my application was here: https://www.tax.ny.gov/ptr/
Anyway, checks are processing and they said by mid-feb I should get mine.
Also to those who were asking if it was regarding a grievance or the STAR reduction, it is neither. Our STAR reduction comes right out of our tax bill, as we bought prior to the change in how they distribute those funds. This is for a relief credit, which all taxpayers are entitled to a certain percentage of their STAR savings back in a check. The chart is as follows: $75,000 or less : 28.0% between $75,000 and $150,000: 20.5% between $150,000 and $200,000: 13.0% between $200,000 and $275,000: 5.5%
So if you saved $1000, and make between 75k and 150k, you should expect to get a check for about $200.
ETA: when we first bought our house, I was just hired as a F/T teacher to start that Sept (we bought in July). So, our combined income on their records was probably lower, and would have qualified us for a larger relief credit. I am sure that is why I had to submit updated information.
