Proposal
Can we agree to debate ideas instead of hurling personal attacks? I feel the back and forth just takes away from the original discussion. Just an idea, maybe we can all commit to it going forward.

You need majority from the house then it has to pass to the senate to get that kind of commitment and rule passed.

Works for me, I would much prefer to stay on topic and discuss politics. Everything else just brings that done.

I have no problem with doing this and you can see it is only towards some people and never on any other board. My point is that we try and it is hard not to come back as we are being cursed and yelled at.

I concede that people have, at times, been unkind to her, but there are also many times she will start it by calling anyone who doesn't believe in some half cocked conspiracy theory "naive." So it does go both ways.

I really do try to not be unkind and I can try harder.
To be frank, it gets frustrating when we don't all perceive a shared reality.
It's human nature to lose patience when someone insists that water isn't wet.
I will do my best but frankly we can't debate ideas if we can't agree on the facts. It's also difficult when the mass disbelief in facts causes so much harm to the country.
But I understand and appreciate what you are trying to do here.

Great proposal--and overdue. It's super creepy when people get triggered and lash out at total strangers--going after who they are, rather than responding to the substance of what they said.
It gets about as much credence and respect as attacking someone randomly on the street does, though, anyway.

But that’s the beauty of having a debate...to exchange ideas, thoughts, perspectives. The problem is when people go into a debate with the expectation (whether they’re aware of it or not) of persuading someone that has a different idea to think like them, if this doesn’t happen they get frustrated, annoyed and they end up insulting, degrading, and belittling people. It such a turnoff when debates and discussions end up this way.

I'm all for healthy debate and exchange of differing ideas, but that's not possible with someone who refuses to live in a fact-based reality. It's dangerous to even minimally entertain these insane conspiracy theories let alone give them any oxygen. What happened at the Capitol this week proves that. Conspiracies are killing people.
