Pros & Cons of a late-year leave replacement position?
Are there any cons to taking a leave replacement that starts mid may ?
I figured any experience is great.
Any thoughts or words of advice ?
I just got an email, and may be interviewing for one.

If you need a job...I don't see many cons. The kids may take a little while to adjust but I can't really think of any other cons. You get your foot in the door!

Take it! It is a foot in the door. People have babies at all points in the year so leave replacements are needed even now. It would be great experience if you aren't working now.

Re: Pros & Cons of a late-year leave replacement position?
I took one 4 years ago and they found another one for me in september, I was perm. by January and I just got tenured. So it worked for me! I think a leave replacement is better than subbing because it really shows the district what you can do!

Re: Pros & Cons of a late-year leave replacement position?
I had was a leave replacement 6 years ago. They offered me a permanent position a year later, and I am very happy I took the position. It is so much better than subbing. It is the same group of kids everyday and you get to know the staff and administration better than a sub would. Best of Luck!

I did it a few years ago and that is how I got my permanent job. I would definitely take it.

No cons at all! (assuming you're not LEAVING a position for another one)

All pros!
Great way to network and get your foot in the door. My first stint was a LR job at GC and it paved the way for a great deal of awesome experience.
Good luck to you!!!

take it - it's great for the resume. Plus depending how the budget goes, they may have a spot opening in the fall.
only con I can think of is that the kids are a bit nutty...but that's good practicce.

Re: Pros & Cons of a late-year leave replacement position?
Go for it. We have three leave replacements this year and one coming up. Two of the three women are probably staying out again next year, but haven't made it official.
