Protecting yourself/your dog from aggressive strays
I saw a video last week with a smart suggestion that you can use on the walk.
If you're concerned about your safety because of people who don't properly contain aggressive dogs, or strays or whatnot, bring a small bag of dog food with you. If you are approached, grab a handful and forcefully throw it straight at the dogs face.
Hopefully, the dog stops in surprise and realizes it's food and starts to eat it as you make your getaway.
Obviously if you're dealing with some rabid beast, you may need something more but this should help with the occasional stray.

Great idea! This happened on my walk the other day, luckily the owner was nearby and grabbed his dog but my heart dropped when he came charging at me and my ten pound baby.
