Protein
How do you get enough protein in? I am having a hard time eating these days. I'm what seems to be the tail end of m/s. I am eating more but I am worrying it's not enough or the right things. My DH has started to get on my case because I'm not gaining and he read that with twins the first two trimesters are imperitive to gaining a lot of weight. I've actually lost 6lbs in the beginning because of m/s and haven't gained it back. I literally am in bed or the couch most of the time, so it's not like I'm burning anything off that I do eat. He's worried about something being wrong with the babies which is now gettting me stressed that I'm not doing what I need to do. I do drink milk daily, but chicken is one of my aversions at the moment, as well as yogurt and fresh vegetables. All of which I loved pre-pregnancy. What can I do to get in more protein?

Re: Protein
I ate cheese, eggs and Cottage Cheese (a great source of protein). My DH brought me those ensure drinks but i hated them.
I would tell your DH to calm down. I honestly gained only 15 pounds by the end of my second trimester and then the weight came on! I still only gained 38 pounds total which is considered underweight for twins. My doctor was never concerned and just said to continue to eat well. Just because you are having two does not necessarily mean you need to put on 50-60 pounds...everyone is different.

Chicken was one of mine too. I was trying to force down yogurt and fruit and it made me even sicker - a friend of mine said, just eat what you can, the body/babies will take what they need. And then I ate what I could until the aversions and nausea went away.
Eat nuts - they're a great source of protein and I forget which ones exactly, but they help with brain development in the babies.

Re: Protein
There is a great shake that you can get at Trader Joe's - they have chocolate and vanilla - and they taste great when they are really cold - the company is WorldWide Nutrition - there are two kinds - one with 21 grams of protein and the other has 35 grams of protein - PER CAN. They are full of vitamins - low carb, only about 2 g, 1 g of fat and 160 calories. They even are great if you put them in the blender with some ice.
It's a great subsitute if you aren't that hungry and still need the protein.
Price is good too - about $2.19 per can for the 35 g ones and $1.69 for the 21 g.

Re: Protein
Dont worry about not gaining weight... I just had my boys 8/27 and my first two trimesters I olnly gained about 16lbs which is not that much for twins.. The last trimester I more than made up for it... I ended up gaining 44lbs. I ended up delivering 6 weeks early due to preclamsia... But my boys were very healthy, they were only in the hospital for 1 week... Just a heads up see if your dr offers the steroid injection for the babies lungs... I swear by it.. My dr did it and my babies had NO PROBLEMS breathing at 6 weeks early.. I contribute it all to the shot.. Good luck with the pregnancy im sure you will be fine! Enjoy every min of it!

He does, but not until much later in the pregnancy. I will be monitored greatly, so he said if I start to show that I will go into early labor, they will do it then. My dr. seems really on when it comes to having twins. I'm actually his 4th patient with twins right now.

Re: Protein
Hi!! I wanted to add my 2 cents about the weight gain - I too, didn't gain a lot in my first 2 trimesters - but when I did it was a lot at one time - like 9 pounds at once - but then I wouldn't gain for a while more.
I only gained 42 pounds with them and went to 37 weeks - which I consider very good considering I gained 50+ with my first singleton pregnancy.
Take your vitamins, keep hydrated (thats very important) and eat whatever you can.
