Protein in urine/swelling?
I've been having excessive swelling, and the doctor said there was some protein in my urine, so I am scheduled for an emergency appt. tomorrow to recheck my levels.
Did this happen to anyone else? I am 36 weeks, and I am honestly just wondering if I should start packing up my office in preparation for bedrest!

Re: Protein in urine/swelling?
This is the 2nd PG I have this with. I was pre-eclamptic with my 1st. Diagnosed at 36 weeks. I was able to keep him in till 38 weeks before being induced but wasn't put on bed rest.
I was diagnosed this time with pre-e at 28 weeks. I have it much more severe this time and since I am still so far from my due date I am on bed rest.
They may just have you come weekly for Non stress tests and you may need to do a 24 urine test.
Never hurts to have things in order though.

Not to scare you, but I would get your things in order. I went for a routine checkup at 38 weeks and my blood pressure was high and they found protein in my urine and they told me that I was being induced that day - i was prepared to go to work!!! You never know!

Re: Protein in urine/swelling?
A similar situation is happening to me. I posted about going to the doctor yesterday and my BP was high and there was some protein in my urine. Then I had to go to L&D yesterday afternoon. Today I am home and doing the 24 hour urine test. I go back to the doctor Tuesday morning and we will take it from there. I will be 36 weeks on Saturday. We shall see.
I am going to finish packing my hospital bag this weekend. Just want to make sure that I am ready.

I actually jumped the gun on the 36 weeks--I am due the day after you are! They seemed to think everything would be fine even if I go into labor now, so I am OK with whatever happens. We are moving into our new house this weekend, so I just need to make it to Tuesday so I have a bed to go home to.
BTW, you are delivering at SB too, right? Did you pick a ped? I started interviewing with them this week.

I KNOW! I was at Target and was picking up snacks for DH to put in the hospital bag (which is so typical me--I haven't figured out anything for myself, but DH will not go hungry! ). But I got a nightgown set and still have to figure out/wash a coming home outfit for the little guy! Ahhh! AND the car seats can't be installed yet because we are moving this weekend and need the space in our cars! lol!
I think I am going with a ped. I interviewed in SB--I appreciate the rec., but I want to stay a bit closer to home!

I know you are due the day after me!
My doctor wasn't too concerned either. I am sure that we are far enough along to be fine. Nothing will happen with me until Tues at the earliest when I go to the doctor so tomorrow DH and I are going to finish getting things ready. We had planned to get the bases installed in our cars tomorrow and interview one other pediatrician tomorrow afternoon. We are leaning toward Friendly Medical in Stony Brook right now for ped. But we will see after we interview another one in Smithtown tomorrow.
I can't believe you are moving this weekend! That is so exciting! Make sure you take it easy! Sit down and tell people where to put things!
Yes I am delivering at SB! The nurses at L& D were awesome yesterday! No complaints!

I met with Dr. Bennit from Family Medical this week! He was very nice and knowledgeable...Not too warm and fuzzy, but I really liked the office, and I think we are going with them too!

We met with Dr. Bennit as well. I agree that he wasn't warm and fuzzy but he seemed very knowledgeable. I liked his answers to our questions. I loved the office! I also like that there are 3 other doctors and we don't have to choose 1 particular doctor we can rotate doctors. Now we can run into each other at the pediatrician's office!

Re: Protein in urine/swelling?
I started swelling around 29 weeks. I also started having elevated BP during the 3rd trimester. The swelling got progressively worse. I was sent for bloodwork a few times to make sure everything was ok.
At my 35.5 week appointment, my BP was very high and I had traces of protein in my urine. When the doctor talked about taking me out of work, my BP really spiked. She decided to send me over to L&D for monitoring. My BP dropped at the hospital and my bloodwork came back ok except for the uric acid levels. The baby looked great. The doctor on call told me that there was no way I'd be allowed to go past 38 weeks b/c I was moving towards pre-eclampsia. I was relased after several hours and placed on bedrest. I ended up doing the 24 hour urine collection over Thanksgiving. It came back normal.
I had 3 or 4 appointments over the next 2+ weeks. The baby looked fine at every appointment and though my BP was high, it was within the acceptable range when I was lying down. I took my hospital bag to each appointment b/c if the appointment didn't go well, I was going to be sent to L&D to have the baby. The doctor was very suprised, but I made it to my 38 week induction.
I hope everything is ok Beth.

Thanks Brooke! Hope Harrison is doing well! We are moving this weekend, and I kept thinking of you moving so close to your date (or after he was born!?) when I get stressed out! You give me hope!

I "packed" while on bedrest. I sat on the couch with my legs elevated and packed what I could. Both of our families helped a lot with the packing and moving. I wasn't even sure if I'd be around for move in day b/c I was told that there was a good chance I was going to be sent over to L&D a few days before we planned to move in. Luckily, I made it to move in day. I basically drove to the house and sat on the couch while our families helped unpack. I was induced 5 days after we moved in. I hope you're able to move into your house.

Re: Protein in urine/swelling?
definately get your things in order... if you dont go early- you'll start to get more uncomfortable anyways and will be glad you straightened things out...
I had increased BP and protein, dr sent me for testing at 35 1/2 weeks to hospital... they sent me home from it with 24 hour pee test(which is not fun putting in a tote and lugging at work)... I brought the test in to dr following day- on a friday- was put on bedrest.--- So i come back to the office at 1pm telling them 5pm im done.... luckily i had started clearing things up earlier.
Monday -first bedrest day 36 w 1 day- dr calls- 24 hour test- high protein- repeat testing at hospital- and to bring my bag" incase"- after the testing being reviewed by a high risk they admitted me that night to induce- and I delivered 27 hours later
