PSA for parking at Deer Park- BIG ticket
So I went into work late the other day. I went to Deep Park because I knew I could get a slightly later train. But I had to go to work and it was my only option.
When I got there there were NO parking spote. So I did what EVERYONE else did. Park on the side. What do you do? I HAD to get this train.
When I got back at 6:30 every car that was not in a spot had a ticket. Every one. I was told (after the fact) that they come every day and ticket everyne not ina spot AND ticket for expired registration/inspection.
Look I am guilty. It sucks and I am pissed. It just seems so unfair. But I DID park "illegally".
So word to the wise, don't go to Deer Park if you MUST get the train and its after the 8:11 train. If you are stuck without a spot you WILL get a $75 ticket.
And even better. They only ticket at one time during the day. If you get there AFTER they ticket you are almost certainly "scott free". They dont come back. I'm not saing to do it.
FYI: If you dont pay in 15 days it goes to $150. If you dont pay in 30 days it goes to $225. Usery.

I would never think I could get away parking illegally in a train station of all places! I would never even try that. But thanks for the PSA.

That sucks. I see cars parked like that in train stations ALL the time. I always assumed they weren't being ticketed because otherwise, why would people do it?

happened to me at Ronkonkoma too. i certainly will never do that again!
like a PP mentioned, i saw SO many people doing it that i figured they didn't ticket. yes they do!

At my local station, you usually can not get a spot after 7:30. I either walk to the station or get a ride.

Yes I always see people parked illegally like that at Ronkonkoma too.
My thing is they need to have more parking.
They obviously don't have enough to accomdate all the commuters if there are tons of cars having to park illegally.
It's a great easy way for the town to make money.
People HAVE to go to work, they have to park.
And then they come around and ticket.
I don't believe in parking illegally either.
But they need to come up with better parking solutions at these train stations.
Sometimes I will go in 2 hours earlier than I have to - just to get a parking spot.
It stinks!

My husband got a very late day ticket there. You never know when they will come around. This was during construction. I was so POed at him. I take cabs when I go to that train station. $45 round trip. It sucks but I will not get a spot at the time I go.

I forgot to put my parking permit in my windshield one day in Massapequa train station, and the ticket was $150

DH got one for $50 in Huntington, but that was a good 6-7 years ago.
Now he knows he has to go to overflow parking or park in the $10/day spots (better than the ticket!)
