PSA: Hydrangeas and dead wood
I have been doing about an hour of yard maintenance each day when I come home from work and decided to look over my Hydrangeas last night.
This isn't a required thing, but I do it every year, and it allows more air and room to the crown of the plant...
I reached my hand in and wiggled any branch that didn't have any new growth on it, and if it was loose, I pulled it out. Then I got down and looked at the center, and there was a lot of crap in there! I pulled out roofing shingles, plastic bags, old leaves, newspaper, all kinds of stuff!
When I was done with all 3 of my Hydrangeas, I had a three foot bundle of dead wood and a nice little pile of crap to throw away too.
Just thought I'd share, since so many of you have Hydrangeas too. Like I said, it's not required, but I love the way the bushes look in season, so I try to make them as nice and healthy as possible.

Re: PSA: Hydrangeas and dead wood
Thanks! I'll double check mine, but I don't think ours has anything like this yet. Our Hydrangea isn't that big yet. We transplated it 2 1/2 years ago from one area of the yard to another and cleaned it up then because it really needed it. But it is getting bigger and bigger every year since we moved it and cleaned it out, so this process def. works. Thanks for the reminder.

Thanks for the reminder! Isn't it amazing the amount of crap that comes out of those branches/bushes?
