PSA: New EBAY Scam!!!
I know that there are a lot of Ebayers here so I wanted to let everyone know about what just happened to DH. Someone e-mailed him a questioned about an item for sale and hacked into his account and sent e-mails to people bidding on the item offering to sell it for less if you e-mail him. The purpose of this is so that you can paypal someone money thinking he is the owner.
Anyway, he has really messed up DH's account and auction!!
Contacted Ebay and was told this is the latest scam.
Everyone should check their accounts often especially if you are selling big ticket items.

Thanks for the warning!
It's easy to forget but never click on a link in an ebay email unless it has your full name. Or even better, go to ebay.com through your browser bar and get your messages on the my ebay page.

yes because they get your email address and then they can hack into your account. That is why you need to hide your email address when emailing people back.
Make sure you do all of your replys through ebay

DH's reply was through ebay but when he put in his password to log into the account they were able to keystroke it or something or through a fake ebay page.
These people have gone so far as to create an ad on Craigslist linking to a fake Ebay page IDENTICAL to DH's current auction!!!

This is also the typical phishing exploit usually on banks or credit cards - you get a link with an 'identical looking' page, but it really is a page on a hacked server.
Whenever inputting a username/password you should check the address bar carefully to make sure you are on the correct website.

thanks for the info scott!
ETA: you can dowload an ebay toolbar and it stays on top of the screen. it let's you know if you go to a site that is not a verified ebay site. sometimes i get emails that look exactly like ebay or paypal websites. but then the toolbar tells you it's not a verified site. also, like scott said, only go through ebay to do all of your replys! the toolbar also has a feature that if you are bidding/watching something and it's ending soon, you will get a pop up on the screen no matter what website you are. i think it's a great feature!

something like this happened to me this week
my friend bid on something I was selling
she lost- (that was the point- not 100% right but I needed to do something to sell this thing)
and then she got a message thru ebay from some else- claiming to have the same bag for sale and that not to respond thru ebay- to contact him or her thru email
how shady!
