Haha, it's directly in the flight path for LaGuardia. Talk is building a solar farm. That would benefit everyone. But, I'm sure that no one is thinking the glare from the panels MIGHT pose a problem for the pilots who are landing and taking off from LaGuardia.
I heard from someone who works at RI that they are going to increase the length of the runways.
OP - I can't imagine! No one helped her!??! That is crazy. Glad she is ok. I hate going into the city now.

That's so scary. I'm glad your friend is ok. It doesn't shock me at all that nobody intervened and I'm not surprised that people are starting to feel unsafe. I have family and friends that are police and they say in this political climate, they are told not to make arrests and risk confrontation (especially with homeless and the mentally unstable). IMO it skews the statistics. It seems like the crime rates are lower, but they aren't arresting people that should be arrested. My uncle tells us stories about they people they are letting go, and it is mind blowing. I can't believe they would let these people walk free on a daily basis. I guess for them it's better than risking their pensions though. I'm sure it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

I heard the same from law enforcement friends as well. It’s scary to know this. My husband keeps saying “we gotta gtfo of here” and I agree more and more these days. We’re gonna be living like mountain men off the grid before you know it lol

The issue is lack of resources for mental health and drug addiction. The homeless don’t ask to be homeless. I can’t imagine this is how they expected their lives to turn out. These are people with all sorts of struggles. Many of them are not just mentally ill but developmentally disabled. They are human beings. Someone’s child, brother, sister. Can you imagine being cold and alone and not know why you’re in the street by yourself with no money and belongings? I’ve never felt anything but sadness walking past them.
Arresting these people does nothing other than terrify them and then throw them back on the streets. They will never break the cycle until there is actual change. I don’t know what the solution is but it breaks my heart.

Bingo!!
ETA: As for Rikers, I had not heard any plans for it. Solar wouldn't be a terrible idea. Well with exception to the glare
