PSA: Target Brand Drop-In Refills
I decided to buy the Target brand drop-in refills to try to save a little bit of money and I will NEVER buy them again.
DD gets 2 bottles of formula and 1 bottle of breast milk every day. I noticed that I kept having left over breast milk each day and I wasn't sure what was going on. Finally I pulled out my trusty measuring cup and realized that the target drop-ins were off by A LOT! I had been giving her 5 ounces of water and adding 7oz worth of formula. No wonder she was freaking out every time we tried to give her a bottle. They say that they're supposed to hold 8oz, but 7 oz of water was overflowing in them. If you're using these, please make sure that you're measuring them correctly.
DH is going to write to complain to Target. I can't believe that they would sell a baby product that's so off!

Hmmm- I use them and never noticed that. But I never fill them to the top...I usually make 4 oz bottles and they have been fine. I have to check this out!

Re: PSA: Target Brand Drop-In Refills
Do you guys put the drop-in in to the bottle and then fill it up according to the lines on the bottle itself? That's what I was doing. I looked at the liner and thought that I would go by the markings on the liner itself and even those were way off. Maybe I just got a bad batch, but I measured a few times to make sure that I wasn't seeing things.

I'm surprised, I always used them and never had that problem. When I started using formula I didn't trust those things and I would measure in a separate measuring cup and pour the water in and then the formula. But it was always correct so I stopped measuring in a separate cup.

Make sure you're not using the expandable side markings on the bottle... the target ones aren't expandable.

Yes- I fill it up according to the lines on the bottle. But the formula I use- the AR- seems to thicken up when I mix it up- so if I use 4 oz of water, I seem to get like 6 oz of formula- it like magically grows!
I am going to try a measuring cup later and see!

This is what I was thinking.

Same here.
You have to do this.
There is a reason why the playtex bottles have two measurements.
EX: 6oz on bottle=4oz of formula.
Its not the bags.

AH HA! So maybe its not the AR formula whipping up thicker... maybe it's that! I never even realized this. I was blaming it on the formula! I thought it was magically growing!

I don't understand this. Why would 6oz on the bottle equal only 4oz of formula?

IDK, playtex did it.
Measure it out yourself seperately and you will see.
I also made the mistake of following just the measurements and like Nervousnell I was getting some THICK formula!
Then I was told if those bags arent expandable and the Target brands arent, they dont measure exact.
I measured seperately and the findings were true.
So technically a Playtex bottle with a non expandable bag measure in total 6oz of formula.
ETA: you avatar is omg..PRECIOUS!

This is the problem. The box says that they're 8oz refills, but they definitely don't hold that much. Regardless of if I'm looking at the lines on the bottle or not, the drop-in doesn't hold as much as they say they should. My DD drinks 7oz bottles and these things don't take that much. If I knew that I would have never bought them in the first place.

Re: PSA: Target Brand Drop-In Refills
I avoided this issue altogether by mixing an entire day's worth of formula in the Dr. Brown's Formula Pitcher and then just pouring in the mixed formula into the liners.

Re: PSA: Target Brand Drop-In Refills
I always just measured out the water in a measuring cup b/c even with regular bottles, I felt that it didn't measure correctly.
