Re: PSA: Tis the season for identity theft and fraud
Not me, my Mom.
A former coworker stole her info and used it to rack up mortgages and loans.
She's managed to sort the bulk of it out on her own, and my younger sister is there (mom is out of state) helping her sort out the rest of it.
The worst thing is that the b@stard is probably going to get away with it. The detective Mom is working with told her that while she can file a report in NY, pressing criminal charges won't have any result. It is really up to the banks where the mortgages were taken to pursue criminal charges, but that they will probably not do anything. Can you freaking believe that? i had no idea it was so easy to get away with. The detective told her that the best thing would be to repair her credit as best she can, which she is doing.

OMG, how horrible. And yet he'll get away with it and look for his next victim. I hope she'll be able to repair most of the damage he caused.

That's insane!!! I feel so horrible for your Mom.My Mom had someone use her CC and she never even lost it! It's such a pain to reapir all that stuff. I would think the banks would look at it for what it is FRAUD! I'll pray for your Mom and hope she gets this straightened out asap What a nightmare. She's lucky to have you as her DD

great suggestion!
if any cc company or bank pulls the credit - and it says to notify someone or ask for a password, they have to do it or they are liable!
