I go to every meeting. I am not on the PTA board, but as a class mom, I go to all meetings (every other month and for special times).

You can join and not be active. Usually they have a goal for a certain % membership (=$).

I get annoyed that 90% of our meetings are at 10am. They should at least alternate morning/evening monthly, but I think only 2 a year are evenings and at least one of those don't apply to my kids yet (eg. Cyberbullying).

I decided to get involved this year since I'll be on maternity leave for 1/3 of the year.

Yes, you can join and not be active. If you want to be a class mom in our school you have to join the PTA.

Our PTA alternates meetings between mornings & afternoons so working parents can participate too.

Re: PTA - spin off

Ive been debating this also...

what kinds of things are discussed at these meetings? do you have to attend all of them?

Our school only has evening ones, which as a single Mommay be difficult at times...Id have to get a sitter.

I don't think I am going to join. The president really turned me off by her speech durning kindergarden orientation.

I'm on the board. You don't have to "join" at our school but we're not in NY. We don't charge dues.
