I am a public school teacher and am not bothered that my salary is public.

I worked hard to get where I am and am on a higher scale since I have my masters +60.

I really don't have a problem with public sector jobs being public, but do mind the teacher bashing that goes on.

My DH is a teacher...

His name and salary are that list...

Neither him nor I mind that his salary is public knowledge....

I am self employed...

What irks me...and him...is the critique about what teachers make.

He has a BS in Psych and a Masters in Education...he's been teaching for over 15 years...

Yes...he may make over 100K...but he didnt start out there. He started out making less than 40K. He has earned every last dime of his current salary...

i don't care if ppl know my salary. BUT i know if salaries were public knowledge in my law firm... oh the drama. people get very testy about who makes what and who got a bonus and who didn't get a raise. i could only imagine what would ensue.

as i just found out, my dh's salary is on the seethroughny site. i mean i knew cops salaries were public knowledge, i guess i just didn't realize it would say his name too.

I do not know if you are at a big firm or small firm but I do know that most salries at large firms are public knowledge - it is not tied to your name but rather your year. SInce most big firms have a lock-step payscale rather than discretionary raises it is pretty easly to publish. When I was at a big firm everyone knew my salary and I knew everyone else's. Our Bonus was also tied to billables so you knew what people's bonuses were based on that. Just take a look at NALP, Vault, or ABove the law...

I do mind people knowing my salary.. I think most people would have a decent idea based on my title.. but actual salary is private. I also do not like the idea of seeing the salaries of people I know and refuse to look them up.

I made 55K( I will be a sahm in dec) DH is suffolk cop, his salary is public knowledge. I think it's a shame that ppl are force to show their salary :(

myself and dh are both nypd and so, our salaries are public just as suffolk, nassau cops etc. it bothers me bc everyone feels they are entitled to an opinion without actually knowing what goes on behind the scenes.
i cannot stand when someone tells me how we should make more than suffolk cops, bc suffolk cops don't do anything, blah blah blah...
i come from a family of suffolk police officers, my sister is a suffolk 911 operator and i worked as a civilian for suffolk HQ as well... people that make those statements are ignorant.
suffolk cops get paid a good salary bc they deserve it - they too, put their life on the line everyday to serve and protect the community. they live on long island and we all know what it's like Chat Icon
it's not that city cops deserve more or less... it's that there are 30,000 of us that have to be paid a salary, while suffolk only has approximately 1,100. big difference. sure, we deserve to make an equal salary, but sometimes fair just isn't fathomable.
so in response to your question, my salary is public and even though it's being paid by the taxes of others... i don't like that anyone's salary be public knowledge. bc public info = opinions that are too often, coming from a place that is unknowledgable.

I don't get a salary

but you could figure out how much I make on each house I sell - kind of

you would need to know the comission rate and my split

it would take a lot of effort to do- but it can be done if you really wanted to know

I work in digital division of a PR agency and get a decent salary. I'm kind of indifferent about my salary being public record. My feeling is if people want to know that much to do a search, more power to 'em.

My husband is an Assistant Attorney General in IL and his info is public.

I'm a SAHM so I won't answer the poll since you don't want household income. But when I was working I wouldn't have wanted my exact salary posted, regardless of if I worked for a public or private organization. One company I worked for classified everyone into different band levels and it was posted which band I was in and what the salary range for the band was. I was comfortable with that.

same here!

I think your salary is your business

This is true but this doesn't apply to non big law firms. I work in house to a giant insurance company which is private sector. Like bear, none of us know what our co workers earn.

My annual review is coming up in February and already I am hearing gossip over which attorneys are not getting raises, bonuses, etc. We have an online billing system that shows all our billable hours but I'm pretty damn sure that if my manager and all paralegal/ secretary and attorney salaries became public, it would cause huge drama. I know for a fact at least 3 attorneys at my firm who got bonuses because they kissed the right butts within management..if all that was out in the open, holy cow there would be some drama!Chat Icon

Re: Public Aware of Salary - Teachers -----> Spinoff Thread

I'm a teacher, and mine is public.

In VA they post teacher salary scales online, so if you know how long someone has been teaching/their level of education you can also figure it out...

One year, in my old district, the local paper listed every school employee and their exact salary... which I thought was going a bit too far...

I am a part time AA so anyone can guess hoe little I am paid Chat Icon

DH is a teacher, and neither of us mind that his salary is posted. The issue is that it includes all the extras he does - so it isn't his base salary, it includes all of the extra time he puts into his job. Newsday doesn't make that distinction either.
