Puppy owners
How often do you create your puppy? I feel terrible doing it, but feel like she just needs some time in there to decompress sometimes ....she gets a little crazy sometimes, esp. when I am all over the house cleaning, taking care of the baby, etc.

We crate Kasey whenever we leave the house. We also do it if we're home and she's acting up, it's like putting her in a "time-out". While she's in there she usually takes a nap and is better behaved when we let her out.

We have Bella in there all day while we are at work (She is 5 1/2 months old). When we get home, she is out and about. If she is in a mood though (biting) we put her in there for like 10-15 mins to calm down and back out again.
When we first got her, I would have to put her in there while cleaning, laundry, etc.. also because she was not 100% potty trained, but now she is fine.
Do not put the puppy in the crate as punishment though, it is supposed to be the "safe place" for them.

I second that!!!
I crate our puppy only when we go to work. Usually, our puppy is only crated about 2 x's a week b/c DH has odd hours. And also, when we run errands.

We have crated both our dogs from day one. They love their crates. It is their safe place. Never used the crate for punishment, the dog should not see the crate as something negative. You should also occasionally have them in there when you are home, so they do not connect it with you leaving them.

We crated two of our dogs...we crated them whenever we left the house and at night.
eta: we never used the crate as a punishment. Its a place where they are supposed to feel safe and want to go in

I never lock my puppies crate. He loves to go in there to sleep and get away from everyone.
