Q about house decor "themes"

DH and I have very different tastes. We have seen a few things that we both like, but we expect to have to compromise on house decor when the time comes.

Do you try to keep the "public" areas of your house looking similar? Or in complimentary styles? Like using the same:

Color wood
Color paint
Type of furniture/fabrics

Throughout the place? Or is each room entirely different?

I have an ecclectic taste - I like to blend antiques with modern pieces with pieces that we picked up along our travels. I don't like "themes" or anything to matchy-matchy.

While the colors in my house aren't in the same family, they seem to blend nicely together - brown's & grey's with blue's.

Thankfully both DH & I have the same taste so there hasn't been any issues with that. Except for when he wanted a recliner (no offense to anyone - they are just not my thing).

Although I really like french country and shabby chic, our house is definitely more traditional looking. It seems to be the only "look" we can agree on. Not every room is the same but it just kid of happened that most of our furniture is pretty traditional. But like Colleen, I try to mix it up with unique things that we pick up along the way......

i like thingsto flow color scheme wise, but dont like matchy match, Furniture is all different pieces

I like things to flow too, but DH and I both like the Contemporary look.
