Q for mommies who pierce their little girl's ears
Please don't see this post as "flaming". I am just curious.
Aren't you scared your baby lose an earing and swallows it?

Re: Q for mommies who pierce their little girl's ears
i was a little but dd got her ears pierced when she was around 11 weeks so she didnt know they were there, i stil dont think she does and she is 13 mths now..i still have the earrings in that the ped. put in when he did it bc the backing is very good, and hard to come off.

Re: Q for mommies who pierce their little girl's ears
DD was 3 months when she got hers. She has no idea they are even there, which is why I did it so young. I was either going to do it when she was old enough to ask for them, or do it as an infant so she wouldn't touch them or try to pull them out... but of course she was getting pictures taken and I wanted them in. They are adorable.
Those babies are in tight though. There is no way she could ever, ever pull them out.

I *could* be wrong, but I think the posts they put in are really tight and in there good - my concern would be pulling on it and tearing the lobe more than the earring coming out.... can that happen?

I had DD's ears pierced at 7 months. She is now 11 months and has lost 2 earrings. The earrings were never found....I figure if she swallows them they are tiny enough that they will come out the other end....I was panicked the first time she lost one though....knowing my Yorkie he probably ate it.

Re: Q for mommies who pierce their little girl's ears
DD still has the piercing earrings in b/c they are really secure. I want to try other earrings but I do get nervous about them coming out. It's been 11 months since she got them pierced.

Re: Q for mommies who pierce their little girl's ears
I had my daughters ears pierced when she was 2 months old. She has lost 2 backs on her earings, but not the earing itself and she is 1 year old now. I'm sure the backs got loose from taking her shirts and undershirts on and off.

Re: Q for mommies who pierce their little girl's ears
Screw backs eliminate the fear of them coming loose and swallowing. Also the ones they use to pierce are so tight that they are hard for Mommy to get off. When they are done young they really have no idea that they are even there. My DD has them done at 3.5 months and is 2 now--we haven't have one problem.

Re: Q for mommies who pierce their little girl's ears
Do they make "screw back" earings for adults?
How do they look like?

Yes they do. I have them on my diamond studs and I wouldn't have anything else. You litertaly screw it on instead of pushing/sliding it on.
To your orginal question. I actually never thought about her pulling it at or loosing it. I had it done at 5 months and she has never tugged at them. The back is securely on the post but the earing itself isn't tight on her ear.

My BIL's girlfriend's DD had earrings very young, and she lost at least 2 (that I know of....) they were never found, so nobody knows what happened to them....
So, even if it is rare, it CAN happen..... luckily nothing bad happened.

Same here we only switched to new earrings (real ones screw backs) recently because I finally lost the backing to the earrings that she was pierced with. She doesnt even bother with them at all. She knows they are there she will hold them and say earring and I say yes we dont touch them and thats it she moves on..

No I am not scared...the earrings she has have safety backings...even if she DID swallow it, they are tiny and I am sure would do no damage

FYI Screwbacks can be added to any post earring at a jeweler for very little money

Not really, I've pierced hundreds of little infants ears and never once heard of a child swallowing an earring. Im sure I would have to.. customers loved to complain
Kaila's have fallen ot a couple times (she's had them pierced fod 2 years) but she's never eaten one!

Re: Q for mommies who pierce their little girl's ears
I just had DD done on her 2nd b-day and they don't seem to bother her. She dosen't play with them so I'm not worried about her pulling them out.
I do recommend doing it early though when they can't fight with you to clean them!

Re: Q for mommies who pierce their little girl's ears
My 2 year old has had them since she was 6 months. Never touches them and we've never lost one. The initial piercing earrings were so secure it was hard to get them off when I wanted them off. She has screwbacks now. I doubt they could fall off either. No issues at all.
