Q for people living in Howard beach

We looked at a coop at HB today, while we were looking at it we heard plains flying over A LOT .The owner was there and said that some days its very busy and you can hear them a lot and some days you don't hear anything.
So my Q is ,how do you deal with airplanes flying over every few minutes or few hours a day/night ? Does it wake you up at night or really early in the morning? If you have kids , does that noise interfere with their nap/sleep ?
hw much can you hear and how much does it bother you?
TIA

Re: Q for people living in Howard beach

I lived in HB for a few years and heard planes going over the building. Kennedy airport is very close to HB.

In the summers I kept the windows open, so talking on the phone or watching TV was a bit annoying, but you got used to it.

Before I moved to HB, I lived in Maspeth, which was very close to LaGuardia airport, so I guess I was used to it by the time I moved to HB.

I had family there years ago, it was pretty bad I have to say. I personally could never tolerate it.

I think you get use to it. I grew up in that area and it was just part of life. I know when I talk to my mom sometimes we have to stop if she has the windows open and a plan flies over head.

I am not going to lie - MANY planes pass and they are LOW.

I honestly, NEVER notice them EVER. You get used to them. I have never been woken up by a plane. Sometimes, when I am on the phone I have to stop talking for a second - but I don't even notice I am doing it.

The only time I notice planes is when I have people over that are not from HB and they will stop and stare and half the time I have no idea what they are looking at Chat Icon

The only plane flight that I couldn't get used to was the concord. Other than that you get so used to it that you don't hear them anymore and since the Concord doesn't fly anymore it's not an issue.

Re: Q for people living in Howard beach

where is this co-op located? Lindenwood? I'm in Old Howard and yes you do hear the planes, but honestly it doesn't bother me at all.....I grew up in S. Ozone Park which is just as bad w/ the planes, I'm completely immune to it. It never wakes me up, even if we have the windows open w/o the A/C on.

I have a coop in Lindenwood and you honestly just get used to it...they do fly over often...some days (depending on the weather) you can barely hear it, others it's a bit louder...I never had it be so loud it interfered with my day...at night you don't really hear it...I think in the past year I heard it once, but never to wake me up...I don't think people in the area really even notice it...i hope that helps
