QOTD - 4/13/09
If you are at a store buying something (food, clothes, whatever) and notice you are wrongly rung up for your items resulting in you having to fork over less $$$...do you tell the cashier OR just leave with your discounted goods?

I leave with my discounted goods. If she scans it and it comes up the wrong price then I just assume it's a sale sign I missed or a promotion I didn't know about.

Re: QOTD - 4/13/09
I will be the first to admit that I have noticed things left off our restaurant bill (not sure if it was on purpose or a mistake, probably a mistake)...and we never say anything
I have noticed some clothes rung up wrongly but usually didnt notice until I got home and obviously was not going back to fix it unless I was overcharged!
However the other day i bought 2 smoothies and for some reason she only rung me up for 1 and I told her right away it was a mistake! So I guess I did my good deed for the day/week/year.
But I am curious if it is considered stealing if you dont correct their mistake or do you just take your bonus and run?!

I take it. Its an exciting bonus. Last year at kohls we were rung up, and we had coupons and what not, but it still seemed very cheap. When we got home we realized she didnt charge us for 2 shirts and pair of pants. I figure its her own damn fault b/c she was on the phone the whole time she was ringing us up.

Am I guilty of doing it?

Re: QOTD - 4/13/09
Usually I wouldn’t say anything…I mean I don’t think it’s ever really happened to me that they have totally missed ringing one item up, or if it has I haven’t noticed. When things ring up way less than they should be I usually figure something was on sale that I didn’t realize. Oh actually you know what, it did happen to me once and I didn’t say anything. It was at H&M and I bought 1 skirt and 2 necklaces…the 2 necklaces rung up and the skirt didn’t, and the salesgirl was really rude and also not paying attention. The total was like $9, and should have be $39 or something. She didn’t notice and I didn’t say anything….so I guess I’m evil. But she should have really thought, $9, that can’t be right, right? Oh well. Guess I’m not always ethical. I do give the money back if they give me too much change and I notice it though….

Re: QOTD - 4/13/09
i never usually check my receipts until i get home, i always shove them into my wallet and when it gets full then i take them out....so i take it as a bonus
i did get an extra 20 at the bank a few months ago and again i didnt realize until i got home and went to split the money with DH....
i felt horrible i didnt count it there and was worried the teller might be in trouble but i alway see them double count it so i have no idea how it happened and DH was like "no way are you going to give it back! it was her mistake!!!"
so i kept it....but i still feel bad, like i am a bad person

Re: QOTD - 4/13/09
It depends on if it's something the salesperson will get caught w/ and get in trouble for .
If not, I'm not saying anything. Especially if I'm already spending a lot of $ and its a store I shop at a lot.

Haha this reminds me of a story my sister told me. She cashed her paycheck at a grocery store and they overpaid her by like $700. She didnt realize till she got home and felt awful but decided to wait it out and sleep on it. Later that night she got a call from the supervisor saying they think they gave her too much money and to please call back. I dont know how they found it but she went right in and gave the money back and felt terrible for keeping it anyway.

I leave with my discounted items. Most of the time I'm an idiot and blurt out something like "oh look, it's on sale!" lol. If the computer system is coming with the price, it's coming from their central system. They might not have changed the tags or signs in the store to reflect the new price.

Re: QOTD - 4/13/09
It really depends with me. Normally I am the type to correct a problem. I just don't like the idea of "stealing". But sometimes I'll admit that I do let it slide. If something's less money than I thought, I never correct it because I assume that i was mistaken or it's on sale. But if I do notice it right away that they didn't ring me up for everything, I usually do say something. (unless i'm very broke and could benefit saving money that week. haha. DH says that certain stores owe US for buying so much from them, why not accept a free "gift" from time to time. lol.)
I remember just a couple months ago tho when I picked up photos I had ordered - usually I pay online when I order, so when i pick it up I can just take it and go. However, on this particular one i did not pay beforehand and I forgot about it and just left with the pictures (nobody noticed - i think they just assumed i had paid also. I dunno). I didn't realize until later, but I still wasn't about to go back there and pay for it. It's not really that big of a deal but I just felt SOOOOOO guilty the rest of the day. lol.
