Re: QOTD - Friday 3/4

We mistakenly scarred Brinkley on the whole bath thing, from the beginning. We didn't realize how much he hated standing or walking on slick surfaces and how scared he would be in our bathtub. We've had him almost three years, and he won't even step foot in that bathroom anymore! We bathe him out in the backyard, on leash, so he can't get away.

Here's a video that pretty much encompasses how both of them feel about water. Please forgive my stupid giddy laughing, I get such a kick out of them I can't help it!

Irate. Chat Icon They HATE baths. It takes two of us to corner one of them and lift them into the bathtub. Then it takes one of us to block the ledge of the bathtub so they don't escape while the other does the actual washing.

Funny enough, they love to be brushed! Irwin actually gets mad when I stop brushing him. It's just baths that they hate.

Ginger is so funny!!! Brinkley reminds me of Layla. She will avoid water at all costs, even if it means missing out on the fun. My son likes to sneak attack her with the hose, it's pretty funny!

I always thought Labs were supposed to love the water. I guess not! LOL!

Lets just say the spray bottle is his punishment when he's bad. If he scratches DH, he chases Hades around our apt with the spray bottle until he's soaked! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Although he used to like drinking water out of our leaky faucet in our old apt.

Re: QOTD - Friday 3/4

My dog Riker hides behind my husband when it's bathtime but he loves the water in every other way. He has a baby pool and he swam in the ocean last year off the boat very happily. He could care less about the rain...really annoying when I am waiting for his business to be done.

My bird Buddy loves to be sprayed with the water bottle.

Our dogs HATE to be wet. They try to run away when it's bath time. If it rains, we have to force them to go out in the yard and use the bathroom. We got them a kiddie pool for the hot summer days, and the only thing they're interested in is drinking from it. We have to force them to get in and stand in the water, and even then, they're just waiting for us to stop paying attention so they can jump out and run away. Chat Icon

Re: QOTD - Friday 3/4

The only water my cat likes is in the bowls on my radiators or around the drain in the shower. She's weird.

She won't drink out of her water bowl, and I change it twice a day.
Go figure.

HATES WATER!
He does a duck walk when we walk in the rain, he tries to jump out every few minutes when we give him a bath.

I think he knows when it's raining because he sleeps the most on those days and usually doesn't wake up to go out when I'm leaving for work.

After a bath, he's exhausted!

IDK water=sleepy dog?

Re: QOTD - Friday 3/4

When we first got our cats I did not know if you actually bathed cats or not. So I googled how to wash your cat and found the most hysterical description of "how to". For you cat lovers...enjoy:

"Some people say cats never have to be bathed. They say cats lick themselves clean. They say cats have a special enzyme of some sort in their saliva that works like new, improved Wisk - dislodging the dirt where it hides and whisking it away. I've spent most of my life believing this folklore. Like most blind believers, I've been able to discount all the facts to the contrary - the kitty odors that lurk in the corners of the garage and dirt smudges that cling to the throw rug by the fireplace.

The time comes, however, when a man must face reality; when he must look squarely in the face of massive public sentiment to the contrary and announce: "This cat smells like a port-a-potty on a hot day in Juarez."

When that day arrives at your house, as it has in mine, I have some advice you might consider as you place your feline friend under you arm and head for the bathtub:

-Know that although the cat has the advantage of quickness and lack of concern for human life, you have the advantage of intelligence (hopefully). Capitalize on that advantage by selecting the battlefield wisely. Don't try to bathe him in an open area where he can force you to chase him. Pick a very small bathroom. If your bathroom is more than four feet square, I recommend that you get in the tub with the cat and close the sliding-glass doors. (A simple shower curtain will not do. A berserk cat can shred a three-ply rubber shower curtain quicker than a politician can shift positions.)

-Know that a cat has claws and will not hesitate to remove all the skin from your body. Your advantage here is that you are smart and know how to dress to protect yourself. I recommend canvas overalls tucked into high-top construction boots, a pair of steel-mesh gloves, an army helmet, a hockey face mask and a long-sleeve flak jacket.

-Prepare everything in advance. There is no time to go out for a towel when you have a cat digging a hole in your flak jacket. Draw the water. Make sure the bottle of kitty shampoo is inside the glass enclosure. Make sure the towel can be reached, even if you are lying on your back in the water.

-Use the element of surprise. Pick up your cat nonchalantly, as if to simply carry him to his supper dish. (Cats will not usually notice your strange attire. They have little or no interest in fashion as a rule. If he does notice your garb, calmly explain that you are taking part in a product-testing experiment for J.C. Penney.)

-Once you are inside the bathroom, speed is essential to survival. In a single liquid motion, shut the bathroom door, step into the tub enclosure, slide the glass door shut, dip the cat in the water and squirt him with shampoo. You have begun one of the wildest 45 seconds of your life.

-Cats have no handles. Add the fact that he now has soapy fur, and the problem is radically compounded. Do not expect to hold on to him for more that two or three seconds at a time. When you have him, however, you must remember to give him another squirt of shampoo and rub like crazy. He'll then spring free and fall back into the water, thereby rinsing himself off. (The national record is - for cats - three latherings, so don't expect too much.)

-Next, the cat must be dried. Novice cat bathers always assume this part will be the most difficult, for humans generally are worn out at this point and the cat is just getting really determined. In fact, the drying is simple compared to what you have just been through. That's because by now the cat is semipermanently affixed to your right leg. You simply pop the drain plug with your foot, reach for your towel and wait. (Occasionally, however, the cat will end up clinging to the top of your army helmet. If this happens, the best thing you can do is to shake him loose and to encourage him toward your leg.) After all the water is drained from the tub, it is a simple matter to just reach down and dry the cat.

In a few days the cat will relax enough to be removed from your leg. He will usually have nothing to say for about three weeks and will spend a lot of time sitting with his back to you. He might even become psychoceramic and develop the fixed stare of a plaster figurine.

You will be tempted to assume he is angry. This isn't usually the case. As a rule he is simply plotting ways to get through your defenses and injure you for life the next time you decide to give him a bath. But, at least now he smells a lot better."

Sammy loves a bath... he'll hop right in the tub and just waits for you to start scrubbing...

Lilah hates them. She practically stands tippy toe in the bath and looks like a drown rat! Her expression is always one of "you're killing me with that water!".

BondiebabyZ, that was hilarious! And so true!!!

Smokey goes to the groomers. He LOVES it. He's an attention ***** Chat Icon I bet he would enjoy a bath in the yard too, but his hair grows SO FAST that by the time he needs a bath he also needs a trim.

Abby just cleans herself, as cats do. Although sometimes she jumps into the shower right after I get out. Funnily enough she prefers it when we need to clean the drain and there is still like a 1/4 inch of water in the tub.
