QOTD: Who was your favorite President of all time and why?
I was asked this by a Professor recently and it really got me thinking...
My answer: Ronald Reagan. for how he helped to bring the Berlin Wall down and end the rise of Communism as well as the Cold War. Also, for his gentle, optimistic and kind nature – he was able to be the “most powerful man in the world” but not come off as incredibly intimidating and cruel – but when he needed to be tough, he was. He was, to me, the perfect blend of both a good human being and strong leader… not to mention a wonderful husband. Most of all, he LOVED America and its people – he was not power hungry but hungry to make a positive difference. He was a great man.
One of my favorite quotes:
“Freedom is the very essence of our nation. To be sure, ours is not a perfect nation. But even with our troubles, we remain the lesson of hope for oppressed people everywhere”
What say you?

Re: QOTD: Who was your favorite President of all time and why?
sorry, don't like reagan... I think the Pope also had a large part in the fall of communism in eastern europe. Reagan also created an insurmountable amount of federal debt that we have yet to put a decent dent into repaying...
I would probably have to say FDR because of his 'new deal'.... He significantly aided in the recovery from the depression while simultaneously investing in the infrastructure...
these days, he'd be slammed as a socialist... but back then, before the iron curtain, it was radical, and how it was temporarily implemented to encourage the rise of industry was sheer genius.
oh I forgot to add the quote!
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself - nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.
No group and no government can properly prescribe precisely what should constitute the body of knowledge with which true education is concerned.
The test of our progress is not whether we add to the abundance of those who have much. It is whether we provide enough to those who have little.
Whoever seeks to set one religion against another seeks to destroy all religion.
A nation that destroys it's soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people

Don't like Reagan either, and he did not end Communism. People in the countries under former Communist regimes demanded a change and some progressive politicians ended it. I've never understood why he is credited with ending it. Sorry to be harsh, I really don't like the man. But he was a dream compared to George W.
My favorite in my lifetime is Bill Clinton, though there are many things he did that I do not care for also. Based upon what I know, I would say Franklin Roosevelt, Teddy Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. I like Jimmy Carter as a person, but he was a horrible president.

I think Lincoln was a pretty cool dude for obvious reasons.
That's true! He definitely earned the right to be on currency!
Here's DH's vote: George Washington reason: he was offered the title of 'King' by the newly independent nation and he flatly refused, becuase he knew what was good for the nation

I agree w/ FDR! New Deal is amazing- it speaks to me- that even the lowest person in our society should be taken care of.

Apparently you've never met or worked for him. He's an a-hole and a pig. My cousin is a Special Agent for the Secret Service and was on his detail for a few years.

Re: QOTD: Who was your favorite President of all time and why?
Millard Fillmore..... nobody ever talks about him....
j/k... Honestly, I know nothing about Millard, I just figured I'd toss his name in there since I knew he wouldn't get mentioned....
I would probably say Washington. He was probably one of the only presidents who really had the people's best interest in mind, and nothing at all for himself. I also knew about him turning down the title of King. If he wanted power, he definitely wouldn't have turned that down.
I also like William Henry Harrison. He was in office for one month. He probably caused the least damage to our country.... he just didn't have the time...
