Quality Review
I am in a new school this year after being excessed due to my school closing. I spent 14 years at my old school. Now today I am told my new school will be having a Quality Review the first week back after Christmas break. I am so upset! As it is, this new school is knocking me on my arse with all this data and I have no family life anymore! When is this madness going to change? I swear I don't think my son's teacher in Levittown, NY has to go through half of what A DOE employee has to and his school is thriving! All of this is BS and it doesn't help improve things!!! I am just so done....thanks for letting me vent!

I agree 100% it SUCKS! We have a QR coming in April. I wish it were like it was 10 years ago.
I thought it was bad then, what was I thinking???

Quality Review
The DOE is ridiculous. They think that hammering teachers to death is the way to deal with poverty and the other issues that the students have to cope with. I worked in a very poor neighborhood for 16 years and never once got any PD on really dealing with the issues that held the kids back- it was always about test scores and quality reviews (which are totally artificial IMO) and other useless nonsense.

My school had a quality review a few weeks ago and it was torture!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel your pain. It's so frustrating. I've been in the nyc system for 10 years and I don't know how I'm going to make it another 15 years. So sad what has become of this profession.

You hit the nail on the head. The DOE never deals with the real issues. At my school it is the rising number of ELL students and an ESL program that just isn't meeting their needs. But let's do more paperwork and have more meetings to analyze data! That'll fix it!

Im so nervous! Did the superintendent interview you? They gave out sample questions that have been asked in the past and I wanted to crawl out of my skin! What a nightmare and so nit-picky! I don't do half the stuff on the list...UGH!!!

We have our quality review the week after we get back too so I know how you feel. Most of us had already done our formals and thought we'd be able to breath for awhile but now it is even worse.

Another DOE teacher here....went through QR hell two years ago and on our toes waiting for surprise superintendent visit. Know you are not alone....my carpool and I discuss how can we get out of this profession at least once a week:9

And was hysterical last Friday when my only sister came over and told us the date of her scheduled C-section.....YOU GUESSED IT...QR DAY!!!! I am sick over this!!! I never put work before family but if I don't show up on a QR there will be HELL TO PAY!!!

When my daughter was 1 she caught a nasty stomach bug which knocked her out, then DH, then me, which naturally was Day 1 of our QR. When I called in you would have thought I killed the principal's dog. Thankfully he understood but not all admins are like that.

Yeah, big no to be out during QR. in my school you would be on the principals bad list for a looooonnnnnnng time.

I'm just sooooo upset....such bad timing! I'm going to work but it's something that I will never forget...that I couldn't be with my family while my sister gave birth to my nephew and for what?? A ridiculous QR!
