Quarantine vent

Ugh, I can’t go on a “vacation”this February break and be responsible and wear a mask and go to places that are going above and beyond with precautions because they want to stay open unless I quarantine upon return and my kids miss school to quarantine. Meanwhile my annoying coworker can go to parties every weekend and social events etc and post about it on social media and can go to work the next day.

So annoying.
I’m going stir crazy!!

Re: Quarantine vent

I agree. And the funny thing is, a lot of these states that we have to quarantine when we come back from are in way better shape than us... Covid case wise.
So um yeah. How does that make sense?
You're probably safer in some other states than staying here in NY over break.

What constitutes a state we have to quarantine when we come back from? Is like every state in the nation on the list? Because we are so much better than them? Maybe back when we were in better shape, but not anymore?
And when can these states come off the quarantine upon return list?
Or will it just be like that forever.
Like how we can't visit loved ones in a nursing home here- even thought they are all vaccinated already.

That's the benefit of being hybrid lol - my kids would technically be absent since they go on Mondays and Tuesdays but they wouldn't miss school because they could join online.

ETA - but we aren't going away since DS's AAU basketball is finishing up and he's got travel baseball practices so if we quarantine he msises that.

Quarantine vent

I thought it was any state outside of NJ/CT/PA/MA. But my school told us if we go to ANY state over the break, even drive 40 minutes to the CT border and stay overnight, the kids have to test before we leave, quarantine for 3 days upon return, test again, and then they can return to school. We wanted to go skiing and tubing in PA, but not worth all that hassle.

The NY State website doesn't list those states as ones you have to quarantine upon return from, you are right. (contiguous states)
So where is the school coming up with their own rules from?
I wouldn't even tell them I went snow tubing in PA. How would they know?
We are going to CT over the break. I wouldn't even think to ask the school about going. I'm following the state rules, that's all I need to do

So my friend went skiing in Vermont. They were kicking people off the mountain who had multiple warnings for not wearing a mask when not “actively skiing”. Most places are not messing around bc they need to stay open. So if you went skiing somewhere that has rules in place and is following thru....your kids can’t go to school and you can’t go to work. But little Johnny can go all over New York and go to different play dates and play sports etc... and can go to school. Makes zero sense at this point.

Don't even get me started. My kids are being forced to quarantine even though the county told us we didn't have to because the state DOH disagrees. We just had covid!!! We shouldn't even test because it will most likely be positive. None of the rules make sense. And like PP have pointed out some of these states are doing better than we are!!

My kids would end up telling someone where we went. I’d never put them in that position. I dunno about your district, but they would be immediately moved to the isolation room if they accidentally told someone they went out of state.

You can't test out of it anymore?

I thought there was something where you only had to wait 3 days.

In my district we are allowed to visit contiguous states. Because that's the rule in NY and they aren't making up their own stricter rules outside of what the state dictates
But my daughter is old enough to keep her mouth shut if I told her to.

no there is no isolations in my district and I would loose my shittt if they try to put them in one.

I am not sure how they are legally even allowed to tell you you have to quarantine if you are not breaking any rules. its no likes its a private establishment.

They should lock them in a jail cell in the basement of the school next with bread and water. All because they set foot in NJ

Quarantine vent

My students go skiing in VT on a daily basis (we live close to the border). My school has very strict screening questions but they follow NYS guidelines so VT, MA, CT, PA andNJ are all fine.

Yep. And that's why it's $49. Because we're all trapped here.

Ok that's ridiculous, but how old are your kids? If you're worried about them blabbing just tell them they went snow tubing upstate.

In our district we are allowed to go to NJ/CT/PA/MA. There are so many places you can go for fun during that week in those places. I also know people who have gone out of those states and don't do any testing. I guess it depends on if you want to follow the rules.

Mt Peter in Orange County has good skiing and snow tubing.

I’d like to go to my in laws condo in Florida and sit on their private non crowded beach all day. Nooooo snow!! I literally want to sit my butt on the beach for 3 days and watch my kids swim. I don’t want to go to Disney or anywhere. Just sit on a beach. Ugh.

I agree that the logic doesn’t really make sense. It sucks. We feel completely trapped too.

But could you go at the beginning of the break so that you are back in time for the kids to do the 3 day quarantine before school starts again?

Meanwhile you're probably safer sitting on a private beach in Florida than staying here in NY and going to packed stores. Everything is packed up here.
But yeah, Florida is the devil.
Logical.

I totally agree with you - she had just mentioned skiing and tubing and not being able to leave the state.

I'm finding that people are actually going away for this break and planning spring break trips but since our schools are hybrid you can log in remotely when you are in quarantine.
