Ques for Asthma Moms-to-be --- regular primary or pulmonologist?

I have exercise-induced and allergy-induced asthma that I can usually manage without a rescue inhaler. I've gotten through my first two pregnancies without needing to make any changes to my treatments (ie just use a rescue/ventolin inhaler as needed).

This pregnancy, though, I'm using my inhaler 2-3x per week and my midwife is concerned that's too frequent. She consulted with her docs on staff and while they think Advair or something similar would help, they want me to have it managed by my primary doc. Problem is that I RARELY see a primary (probably because for the past 4+ years I am usually pregnant or post-partum and just see my midwife!!).

Sooo, because I don't have a close relationship with my primary, should I even bother seeing him or should I just see a pulmonologist/asthma doc who can help me? My ins doesn't require referrals for specialists, but the copay is higher....I'm concerned the primary will take my appointment, take my copay, then refer me to a specialist because I"m 7+mos pregnant.

Any thoughts? Any recommended docs?
TIA.

OK - I called four pulmonologist offices and cannot be seen until Jan 30th at the earliest!

I called my insurance company and they're telling me to go to the ER or an urgent care facility?! I feel like that's a waste of resources!!! Ughh.
