ques. if you are having a planned C-Section, XPOST/crashing your board

Not Pg yet, so I am crashing here.

I already know that I will need to have a C-section because of my prior fibroid surgery. I've now gotten got 2 opinions from doctors that I trust. Both are adamant about this and do believe that this is not even a choice. It's mandatory for my situation and I am comfortable with it, yet feel that I may have to be defensive about it.

From what I have read, if I do become pregnant (a big if, because of age and surgical adhesions ) I will be given a natural due date. But my C-section would be approx. 2 weeks earlier and may not be booked until the later months. So, when people ask, when are you due? What is my answer? In some cases, I may not want to explain anything and I may not feel that it is anyone's business how I have to give birth. In some cases, I will gladly explain the due date vs. the C-section date. I do not want people to have an inaccurate date as to when a baby would arrive.

This is a lot harder because I never had a baby before. So, I am more likely to get questions about WHY I need a C-section, or comments that it is elective and that I am only doing it for my convenience. Also, if I just tell people the C-section date, I guess they will calculate weeks and conclude I am farther along than I really am, and wonder why I kept a secret so long.

I guess that there is sometimes no pleasing some people if you are pregnant and people have questions!!!!!

And I only hope that these questions matter to me someday (won't matter if I never get preggo)

So, if you are having a planned C-section, what would you say when people ask when you are due?

With Jeremy he was a scheduled repeat C and when people asked he was due on 1/15 (I let them take him out on the 14th) This baby will also be a repeat C and I am due 2/10 which is what I tell everyone (but I am scheduled on 2/9 to have him/her)

ETA: If you dont want to tell people that you are having a C/S then you can just tell them your due date and the baby can "come early". Also, as you can see by my EDD's amd CS dates that it is possible to have a baby close to your EDD

this is what I would do. Babies come early and late all the time. People are just looking for a round about time anyway. No need to explain.

I agree that there is no need to explain. And anyone who thinks you are having a C-section out of 'convenience' is a moron.

Exactly!

I just give my due date - I don't get into it, unless it's a close friend, or family.

Why explain? Just give your due date. The truth is that even with a scheduled c/s your baby can come early. There is no real way to exactly always know when your baby will decide to arrive.
And when the time comes there are ways to make a c/s a bit less "surgerical". I can help give you info on that such as requesting certain music is planned that you like, letting your husband announce the sex of the baby to you, stuff like that.

I am having a scheduled section on Thursday and I have found that it is just easier to say I'm due on Nov. 30th versus saying my actual due date. People really don't seem to think when it comes to asking a hundred questions. So I do what's easiest.

Thanks everyone. I guess I am just looking to be immune to any and all stupid comments, which is impossible. I was even wondering if people would make comments like "oh, you didn't carry to term," etc. Maybe it will not be bad. I do not get many comments like"when are you going to get pregnant?" and I was prepared for the worst of that when I got married.

I don't know if I could get away with it, but in my case, I would feel better saying, for example, "I'm due early December" or "first week of December" rather than a date.

I guess it will all fall into place. Have to get PG first.

Good luck with your pregnancies!!!!

I think you'll find that, unlike weddings... most people don't have a comment for babies (well, mommies to be). That's what I've seen anyway! They just want a healthy baby and want to know you're OK.

** You'll of course have the typical someone who'll remind you not to drink or whatever. - LOL but for the most part, not your DD or why your DD is your DD. Chat Icon

I did that too once I knew when my csection was gonna be I just started telling everyone that I was due nov 29th and it made it alot simpler. In the beginning I would just say end of november because i knew they had to do it about 10 days before my due date so I counted back.
