Question - Do you sit in on therapy sessions?
I've noticed alot of parents tend to stay in the waiting room when their litte ones are with the therapists. Do alot of you do this? Is it at the therapist's request? Or do you prefer to do it? How old are your little ones that you leave?
We're still new to all of this but I think I'd be too nervous to leave him alone....

Re: Question - Do you sit in on therapy sessions?
We had our services at home and even then I attented all sessions in the beginning.
For a while, we had PT at an agency. I attented ALL his PT sessions.
I say do what you are comfortable with. Especially in the beginning. You will get to know what they do during the sessions. Then, and only you might want to stay or leave. I became distractive in DS' sessions at home and it was better not to be in them.

Re: Question - Do you sit in on therapy sessions?
No.
My DS started EI at 15 months and was very attached to me. He got services at daycare and in the beginning I was attending the speech sessions because part of it was dedicated to eating and I was to try to carry over some of the techniques at home. The PT said it would be better if I weren't there and she was right. When I was in a session, he was too clingy and distracted by me.
Then, when he started new therapies, or was getting used to new therapists, I would stay until he was comfortable and then leave the room if he was home. I didn't go to the sessions he had at daycare. Overall, it's better if I am not in the room. At home, I am within earshot and I hear what is going on, but not where he sees me, or has easy access to get to me.
At daycare, I never worried, because the daycare teachers were there to see what was going on.

No. I think sometimes a parent can be a distraction but it depends on your child. He may want you there in the beginning until he feels comfortable.
I have sat in on his sessions twice since septmeber and mostly so I can see what they are currently working on, the progress he has made and they give me ideas of things to carry over with at home.

Re: Question - Do you sit in on therapy sessions?
when DS was in EI all of his sessions were at home and i did not sit in on them, unless they needed me or wanted to work on certain things with him
he is now in CPSE. we sit in on FT sessions and for the most part his SEIT sessions are still semi solo, but pretty soon we will be sitting in with him on those too because we need be able to direct him as well when it comes to certain things.
his SEIT sessions are at home too

Re: Question - Do you sit in on therapy sessions?
No-never sat in on her therapies because it would be very distracting for her. When my DD first started speech therapy, I could go into a adjacent room with a one-way mirror and observe. When she was in pre-school, I was able to observe her feeding therapies and some of her PT/OT via a camera. Observing some of her therapies without her knowing was actually very beneficial-particulary the feeding therapy since I can employ those same techniques now at home!
