Question - Testing After Miscarriage
Hello Ladies,
I wanted to start off by saying that although I have just been lurking, this board has been very helpul and comforting to me the past couple of weeks.
Two weeks ago, I had a D & C at 10 weeks pregnant. The baby stopped growing at 6 weeks. This was my first pregnancy and I believe that things started off good (two weeks straight of not just morning sickness, but all day sickness). But then those symptoms stopped and the vaginal sonogram showed no heart beat or growth.
In any case, I had my two week follow up appointment today. They did do tissue testing (I hate that phrase by the way, but don't know what else to call it). The testing showed that the problem was "not chromosomal". The doctor (who I do like by the way) said that sometimes these things happen...the egg and sperm joined and were not going to grow into a healthy boy or girl...etc.
Now, I do know that so many times these things cannot be explained. However, most of the online research I have done, which of course is quite dangerous discussed instances where miscarriages were related to chromosomal problems.
That was a long way of saying can any of you shed some light on this topic of miscarriages that are not chromosomal?
Thank you!

Re: Question - Testing After Miscarriage
i am so sorry for your loss
with my loss it wasnt due to chromome abnormalities either.. instead they diagnosed me with IC ( incompetent cervix) which is still not 100% sure.. its so difficult to know why it happened if it isnt chromosomes..
did they do any testing in the hospital after the loss?
i wish i can help you out more, but know someone on here will ! this board is just wonderful and supportive!

Re: Question - Testing After Miscarriage
Thank you for your response.
It is a little confusing to me, but I think when you asked "did they do any testing in the hospital", the answer is yes. That is the testing that showed it wasn't chromosomal. One more thing to add, his exact words were "the test showed that it wasn't chromosomal, in other words the tissue didn't test positive for downs syndrome or trisomy".

Thank you again for your response. And I am sorry for you loss, as well
I am just trying to stay positive and hope that all goes well when we try again in the spring

i too had 2 unexplained miscarriages. Both times chromosomes were tested and did not show any problem. It is very fustrating not knowing an answer. i understand.

Re: Question - Testing After Miscarriage
mine was non chromosomal, however when he did the dnc he said he noticed more tissue than usual(there is a name for it).. but the test results werent conclusive enough to call it that-
but to stay on the safe side i had to get blood monitored every 2 weeks til level to 0, and no ttc for 6 months
its never easy

Re: Question - Testing After Miscarriage
I just wanted to say hello and tell you I'm glad this board has been helpful to you.
My miscarriage tested as chromosome issue, but I think it often is a case where they just don't know why it happened. Which really stinks.
