Question??

I am a certified El Ed Special Ed. teacher. As all of us know it is very hard to find a teaching job on LI. I am currently a per diem sub at a school that probably will not have any openings in the forseeable future. I have had zero luck finding a job. I got called to interview for a TA position in a good district. Should I go for it just to get my foot in the door? I also heard a lot of districts dont hire their TA's???? I am confused. Also how much do TA's start out with..?
TIA

Re: Question??

I think a job as a TA is better than being a permanent sub. In my school we do hire TAs who are qualified for the position. The TAs must be interviewed again for a teaching position. As a TA you will be observed and have a chance to form relationships with parents as well as colleagues. In some districts TAs make about 30,000 and get full benefits. Good Luck!

Re: Question??

I think it depends on the school. For us, TAs often apply for leave replacements or new positions, and if they shine, they often get hired. That is just how our particular district does it...I am sure others might not.

Being a TA is a great way to get consistent classroom experience and to be able to learn and grow. I think it is a great "foot in the door" type of thing.

ETA: Again, it varies by district, but TAs here make between 26-30k.
