Question about 12 week appointment
I had my sonogram and everything looked great with the baby. It was not cooperating at first and kept flipping. We got the pics we needed though. My question is....wasn't I supposed to get blood work done to test for Down Syndrome? I didn't realize this until after I left. TIA!!!

Yes, the blood test completes the Ultrascreen which maybe your doctor did not order for you. I would call today and ask. You only have one more week to do it.

They definitely need blood to finish the test. Did they take blood before? I had a lot of blood taken about a week before the test so that I could get my results on the same day as the test.

I had blood taken yesterday but it was one that I had asked for based on the fact that my sister in law had tested postive for a genetic disorder (everything ended up fine) so I had to be tested as well because my husband could be a carrier. The testing they were doing was genetic testing. I'm going to call my doctor. Thanks!

If your Dr. wanted you to have the first trimester screening, then you do need the bloodwork in conjunction with the sonogram. Did he/she tell you this would be the screening or maybe just a 12 week visit?
I had my regular visit with my OB yesterday, but am going to to a different location today for the ultrascreen because my Dr does not do bloodwork in the office.

I had the bloodwork done 2 weeks before the sonogram b/c the office sends the bloodwork to a lab in CA. The results were ready by the time I had the sonogram. It's a finger prick. I think they need 5 drops of blood. I'd call your doctor's office and check about the bloodwork.

Yes, they did a finger prick for me at my 12 week ultrascreen appt.

Yes, if it was the nuchal translucency/ultrascreen, bloodwork should definitely be taken as well.

Thanks girls! So I called my doctor and part of the blood they took for my genetic testing was for the ultrascreen. I feel much better now!
