Is it a finished basement?
We are in a finished basement and it has no basement odor. We have a dehumidifier that runs on and off all day.

Is the apartment built already?
Or are you building a basement apartment?
My DH built our apartment in his parents house......he used metal studs instead of wood, sheetrock & insulation like you would use in a bathroom and we also did a moisture seal on the floor & walls. 1/4 of the basement is left unfinished (for the washer/dryer, bolier ect) and this is where we run the dehumidifier.
He did such a GREAT job it has NEVER smelled like a basement!!!!
If this is an exhisting basement, try a dehunidifier. The basement smell is usually from dampness......

Get a dehumidifier, this should get rid of the smell.
