question about a job description

what does " .5 position" mean ?

as in

seeking a PART TIME (.5) Special Education Teacher

Does that mean half days, or half a work week in total hours ?

also what does DLC class mean ?

Re: question about a job description

it could be whatever they want - do you get benefits at .5?

Re: question about a job description

it depends on the district and the grade level- but that is about a half a position. a 1.0 is a full time position. Where I teach and at the secondary level, that would mean that you had 2 classes for one half of the year and 3 classes for the second half of the year... Your days would just be shorter, not every other day- but again, that depends on the district and the level...

Re: question about a job description

.5 is part-time, half-load....

so depending on the district that could mean coming in every day for a half-day or coming in 2.5 days a week.

as far as i know, in most places .5 positions do NOT give you benefits. only benefit woudl be from TRS- it would be half a year in the pension bank.

DLC...not sure what that means... what was the context? it could be something like Developmentally Low Class or something like that... they have a lot of acronyms like that for the low functioning kids.

Re: question about a job description

I don't know what it stands for, but in my district it refers to self contained students, which I believe is the highest level of disabled.
