Question about baby shower games.

For a 4 hour shower, how many games do people generally play? I'm having about 40 people and we are having an appetizer, salad, pasta course, dinner and then dessert with the gifts before dessert of course. I don't want to overload with games, but don't want their to be a lull where people get bored/antsy.

Also, what games have you played and would you recommend?

Re: Question about baby shower games.

I think my mom had 4 games.

I don't remember them all. One was a word scramble about baby stuff. And one was where the guests had to list baby names for a boy and girl from A to Z. Some names were hysterical.

Re: Question about baby shower games.

I think I did two games and one activity for my sil shower. One "game" was trying to figure out the circumference of the mommy-to-be's belly. The other was a sheet that I made where I put celebrity names and had people figure out what their babies names were.

The activity was I got white onesies and fabric markers and handed them out to the guests to decorate. We then hung them on a clothesline and the new baby had all these onesies with great memories

I recommend the "Never say Baby" game. For whatever reason people seem to enjoy this game and it lasts for most of the shower.

Here is how to play: Never say "Baby": (Materials- baby safety pins or another type of baby object you can place on a string for each woman at the party as well as string or yarn, enough for each woman to wear as a necklace). Have each woman place the necklace with the baby safety pins around her neck when she gets to the party. The rules for this baby shower game are given out at the beginning of the baby shower that whenever someone says the word "baby" during the shower, any woman who calls it out gets a pin from the other woman who stated the word. At the end of the baby shower, the woman with the most pins wins a prize.

Re: Question about baby shower games.

At my bridal shower- which was the same food deal and length of time- we played 3 games w/ pen and paper and 2 more interactive games like bingo. It went decently but no one really paid any attention to "the answers" that my bridal party girls kept trying to scream out so they could tally up scores/ gift out gifts, lol.

So this time for my baby shower (again same deal- 4 hours at a restaurant) we sort of softened the parameters of the game playing. Each person had a little packet of paper games- match the baby animals, another scramble, etc., and no answers were shouted. Oh, and gift bingo. There was just a basket of gifts (like 50 individually wrapped bath bombs that matched the theme) and towards the end of the party my girls just sort of passed them out without REALLY worrying who won what, kwim? We also did fabric markers and different blank onesies, bibs, and hats. That was a HUGE hit and also kept people busy.

So I guess my opinion is that games r good but not when they're SO regimented. At least at MY parties no one wants to pay much attention to anything but food and conversation (and that may be due to a lot of the ladies mostly speaking Italian- so it's a little harder to get that group game stuff going- except I should say those ladies did take the gift bingo oddly seriously, lol) I think that probably applies also to parties where there is A LOT of food b/c people r just preoccupied.

Depends on the type of games. With 40 people (I'd say that's an average size shower, not too small, not overly big), you can get away with doing 3-4 games easily.

Some can be very quick or not specifically set to a time schedule (like the "don't say "baby"" game), or like baby shower bingo which is played at the same time you open presents (the plus is people stay a bit more entertained since they'll have something to do), and then one or two games that are interactive (like guess mommy to be's belly size - have everyone cut a piece of string or ribbon to what they think the circumference of your belly is and the closest one wins).
