question about Christening dresses...
im just curious, what is the MOST youd spend on a dress for your dd or gown for your ds Christening???
I wanted to have my wedding gown made into a dress for dd, but my dressmaker is very high end and wanted 800 bux to make it..i got her down to 600 and my DH is livid and thinks this is ridiculous...which i can kinda agree with...but i went to Charlottes Kids and the dresses i fell in love with over there were over 450 anyway...there were 3 of them...so with tax, that would be 500...
just a side note, my FIL is paying for half of the party, so i feel like since we're saving money there, it would be a beautiful sentiment to have my wedding gown become a family heirloom.. opinions?? WWYD?
ETA: in case this matters...dd is being baptised at our churches Holy Saturday Easter Vigil, shell wear it there in front of 500 people, shell wear it to her brunch, AND i will have her wear it the next morning for Easter sunday..the Vigil is very special to us, i was baptised there too...thats why i would even consider this

Re: question about Christening dresses...
We had a family heirloom- a 100 year old gown so I didn;t have to spend anything on DS's gown. But there is no way I would spend over $100 on a gown he would wear for 30 min. Then again, I only had a tiny Christening with a reception back at the house so I didn't really go overboard for any of it.

I wanted my wedding dress made into one also but it was $500. We went to Little Dickens and found a beautiful one for less than $100.

I think that is a lot! JMO. I was going to spend $300 on a gown that was made in Rome but ended up finding one for $100.
$300 is the most I would spend.

Re: question about Christening dresses...
Jaime,
I had my wedding gown made into a christening gown from someone's mom who was a tailor/seamstress on here (Little J Mommy). I brought her pics & it turned out beautiful. She charged me $250 (I think) & even made a bonnet.
You should contact her.

Re: question about Christening dresses...
We spent a $170 on just the dress and although it was beautiful it's really not worth spending a lot. She wore it for the church of course and maybe an hour at the party and then she was uncomfortable and itchy and cranky so we changed it. I wouldn't go nuts with a gown.
