Question about colds and babies...
DS is almost eight months and has a bad cold. Went to the dr this morning(the dr that was in is the one I don't like),beggars can't be choosers. Checked his lungs-clear, throat-clear, ears are also clear. But he is very congested(nose) and is sneezing and coughing. Dr. F told me that the only thing I could do is give him saline drops and use an aspirator.
Does anyone know if there is anything else he can take? I won't give it to him unless I talk to his main dr. I dunno.. just don't like Dr. F and don't trust him. Oh and he no fever.
Thanks.

Re: Question about colds and babies...
You can't give babies or toddlers any kind of decongestant...Saline drops, suction, warm baths and a dehumidifier
ETA: Get the Baby Vicks and rub it on his chest and back. It is all natural w/lavendar and eucalyptus.

Re: Question about colds and babies...
The suction and dehumidifier were always close by for us. It stinks - but you have to ride it out
I hope he's feeling much better soon

Re: Question about colds and babies...
My pediatrician prescribed a decongestant for my DD when she had a bad cold last month and she was five months at the time, we only gave her a small amount at bedtime but it worked and she slept through the night.

Re: Question about colds and babies...
They don't recommend using any kind of decongestent on children under 2 - our pediatrician has strict orders against.
Whenever Alex had a cold, and to this day, we just keep the humidifier on in her room, keep her mattress a little elevated so she can breathe easier, and give her motrin at night to help her sleep.

Re: Question about colds and babies...
I still follow the same routine for colds for my son - from when he was a baby.
Cool Mist Humidifier Saline Spray Vicks Baby Rub (under nose, on chest and back)
And when he is very uncomfortable I do give him infant Tylenol.
Lots of love too - that's the best remedy...they need to cuddle.
I hope your little munchkin feels better soon!

Re: Question about colds and babies...
Another thing that helps my baby when he has a cold: twice a day I bring him into the bathroom with me- I run the hot shower and let him take in the steam for several minutes. It breaks up a lot of the "Stuff".
Hope the baby feels better

What she said except with tylenol.
DS just had his first cold at 10 months, started as a head cold Dr said just ride it out basically. But unfortunately for DS it settled in his chest and he was on a nebulizer for 5 days!
Hope your little one feels better soon!

Re: Question about colds and babies...
My DS also has a cold, actually bronchitis. I've been using the Johnson & Johnson soothing vapors bath, as well as the baby Vicks and saline gel (made by Ayr, since its hard to get him to take the drops).
Hope your little one feels better soon.

Re: Question about colds and babies...
I've been using the Vicks rub on DD's feet & chest since others had recommended it from LIF. It's really helped with the congestion.

Re: Question about colds and babies...
As the others have said.
We use saline drops/aspirator when he is realllllly stuffy and having a hard time nursing.
Sit in the bathroom with hot shower running.
Cool Mist Humidifier (we also add a touch Eucalyptus oil to the water).
Vicks vapor rub on his chest and feet.
Try to let him sleep on a bit of an incline to allow gravity help drain the fluid.
