Question about converting from a boiler to a furnace...
Does anyone have experience with converting their home from a boiler (radiators) to a furnace (forced air)? We are in contract for a foreclosure house that was built in 1921 and currently has radiators. The house has been vacant for over a year and since we've gone into contract, the radiators have started to leak, and just today we saw that a pipe (coming from the boiler) burst in the basement. Anyway, long story short, the bank wants to get rid of the boiler and radiators, and put in a furnace. The house is 2 stories, plus a finished attic. We're figuring for the first floor they'll run the duct work through the basement, but what will they do for the second floor? We're concerned how this is going to turn out in the end aesthetically...especially since it's the bank taking care of it and they'll be wanting to get it done for as little $$$ as possible. We've been told it's a $15k upgrade, and the bank has already put a lot of money into this house (new roof, painting the entire house over, etc). Our realtor is getting back in touch with them to find out more details about their plan of attack before we give them the go ahead. I would love to hear what others experiences have been like.
TIA!
