question about deck reconstruction
So, DH and I are considering buying a house that happens to have a hot tub sunk smack in the middle of the deck. I want it removed but I dont know if we can just redeck over that one area or the whole deck would have to be redone and what the cost would be, anyone have any insight?

Re: question about deck reconstruction
How old is the deck? What is the ground like under the deck? It's usually possible to "patch" a portion of a deck but it usually won't match exactly and then will obviously age differently since the surrounding section will be older.
You'll also have to consider how much it'll cost to fill in the ground below since it's probably not ideal to just leave a huge hole. And there's also the cost of getting the tub out. It might be tricky to remove it with the deck surrounding it. You may have to break up more of the deck than you think to remove the tub.
When in doubt, you can always ask the sellers if you can bring in a contractor to get an estimate for the cost of the job. They don't have to say yes, but you really have no thing to lose.
