Question about glucose in urine
So I went for my 15 week appointment and they found some glucose in my urine. The doctor said they will just monitor it
Did this happen to anyone else? Did you wind up having GD?
I drank a caffeine free coke in the am so I wonder if that was the reason for the glucose

Re: Question about glucose in urine
while this isn't 100% your situation:
Q
I am almost eight months pregnant. In my fifth month, blood sugar was found in my urine, but the diabetes test came back normal. They are giving me other blood-sugar tests, and sugar keeps showing up in my urine. My doctor thinks it is what I eat and says it is normal to spill sugar in the urine. I am concerned because there are times when my sugar is four-plus. Is this anything to worry about?
A
Glucose in the urine -- glycosuria -- during pregnancy is not necessarily abnormal. About one-sixth of pregnant women spill sugar in their urine due to changes in the kidney filtration system. Try to avoid intake of concentrated simple sugars in the diet for 24 hours before your next visit to the clinic, (of course, you would want to do this anyway). Things such as sodas, candy, sweetened cereals, pastries, desserts should be avoided.
If you have had the standard tests for gestational diabetes and these are normal, it is unlikely that you have diabetes. However, you may be at increased risk for yeast infections and urinary-tract infections due to the amount of sugar in the blood. Postpartum, it may be a good idea to have a three-hour glucose-tolerance test, if this has not been done during the pregnancy.
Try not to worry.

TOTALLY agree - this is from American Pregnancy:
What can urine test results reveal?
Sugar: Sugar in your urine does not mean you are diabetic. It is normal for your kidneys to leak sugar from your bloodstream into your urine. This is particularly expected if you eat a large meal or drink a really sweet beverage. You should be tested for gestational diabetes if:
* Consistent levels of sugar (glucose) are detected and/or * You feel tired or lethargic * You are consistently thirsty * You are losing weight

Re: Question about glucose in urine
this happened to me at one point in my pregnancy, probably early third tri (but after i took the GD test).
it ended up being because i had eaten literally an entire melon a little while before my appointment
the doc said nothing to worry about, you're just generally more prone to glucose in the urine during pregnancy. it was monitored for the rest of the pregnancy as usual, and didn't have the issue again after that.
i'm sure it was the drink

Re: Question about glucose in urine
I am 12 weeks tomorrow, last Wed, I went for 1st part of Ultrascreen and they found glucose in my urine. They sent me for the 3 hr glucose test (b/c before I was preggo my sugar was already borderline). I got the results today and I am not diabetic, levels were fine. See before the appt. last Wed. I had cereal and added sugar b/c I had heard if you have something sugary the baby moves more on the sonogram, LOL….you can be totally fine even though they saw glucose in your urine and at the appt. they did a finger stick test and the sugar was high then…good luck and keep us posted.
