Question about hair loss

My 6 month old puppy suddenly started losing little patches of hair. They are tiny spots, smaller than a penny. The skin looks red and irritated where the hair is gone. So far we noticed two on his legs, one under his chin and now a third one started on his cheek.

Has anyone ever seen this before? I'm wondering if it is a fungus or an allergy.
I feel bad for him. Chat Icon

Re: Question about hair loss

Could be demodetic mange - some puppies are born with it. Usually meds will take care of it. The vet will probably do a scraping of one of the spots and give you meds. Once it clears up, the hair should grow back. My dobie had it on his nose when he was a pup.

You are right! My DH took him to the vet today and she scraped one of the sections and gave him meds. I feel so bad for him b/c the spot she scraped seem so red and raw now. But at least he will get better. Thanks!Chat Icon
